Health Initiatives for Safety and Stability in Africa (HIFASS) is recruiting five Zonal EMR & IT Support Assistants to support electronic medical record systems and wider IT operations across its designated zones.

JOB SUMMARY

The Zonal EMR & IT Support Assistant will provide hands-on technical support for EMR platforms, computers, networks, security devices and other IT infrastructure. The role combines helpdesk assistance, preventive maintenance, user training, hardware repair, site support, asset management and coordination with remote development teams. It is a highly mobile position requiring regular travel to supported facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide first-line support for EMR systems and resolve user, device, connectivity and application issues.
• Serve as the helpdesk contact for assigned facilities and escalate unresolved software issues to the appropriate remote development or senior IT team.
• Support user onboarding, access setup, routine training and refresher guidance for EMR and other approved systems.
• Carry out scheduled site visits, maintain service logs and document actions, issues, resolutions and outstanding risks.
• Diagnose and repair desktops, laptops, printers, peripherals and related hardware.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and support the physical setup of workstations, server rooms and other IT equipment.
• Install, configure and maintain local-area networks, Wi-Fi equipment, access points, structured cabling, Power over Ethernet devices, server racks, CCTV and biometric systems.
• Support Windows 10/11 and Windows Server environments, including basic configuration, patching and endpoint security.
• Monitor connectivity and troubleshoot TCP/IP, VLAN, wireless-network and related infrastructure problems.
• Maintain accurate inventories of IT assets, equipment assignments, warranties, licences and software renewals.
• Coordinate vendors and service providers, confirm completed work and escalate service-quality concerns.
• Use ticketing systems, spreadsheets and simple automation scripts to track requests, assets and recurring technical tasks.
• Comply with organisational data-protection, information-security and acceptable-use requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• HND or bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• At least three years of hands-on technical-support experience covering computers, laptops, networking, specialist software or physical IT operations.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair hardware and support end users in a professional environment.
• Practical knowledge of structured cabling, PoE devices, access points, server racks, CCTV and biometric systems.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, Wi-Fi, Windows 10/11 and Windows Server.
• Strong problem-solving, record-keeping, communication and user-support skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel frequently within the assigned zone.
• Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Security+, Network+, CCNA or relevant original-equipment-manufacturer certifications are an advantage.
