PROGRAMME BACKGROUND
UNICEF Nigeria’s WASH programme operates across development and humanitarian settings. This group vacancy announcement will establish a pool of pre-assessed candidates for temporary WASH Specialist positions. Placement in the talent group does not guarantee appointment.
ROLE PURPOSE
The WASH Specialist will support programme development, planning, management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, providing technical guidance and management support to achieve WASH results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead WASH programme development and results-based planning.
- Manage programme implementation, monitoring and delivery of results.
- Strengthen theories of change, results frameworks, situation and bottleneck analyses.
- Provide technical and operational support to government and implementing partners.
- Support humanitarian WASH preparedness, response, recovery and coordination.
- Build partnerships and contribute to donor proposals and resource mobilisation.
- Support innovation, knowledge management and capacity development.
- Promote rural and urban water supply, sanitation, hygiene, WASH in schools and health centres, menstrual hygiene, gender equality and human rights.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Advanced university degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Behaviour Change Communication, Sanitary Engineering or another relevant technical field.
- At least five years of professional WASH-programme experience.
- At least one year of deployment in a developing country.
- At least one humanitarian deployment lasting three months with the UN, government or an international NGO.
- Fluency in English. Another UN language or a local language is an asset.
CONTRACT DETAILS
- Grade: NO-3.
- Contract: Temporary Appointment.
- Duration: 364 days.
- Locations: Eight UNICEF Nigeria duty stations.
