Position Description & Requirements

PROGRAMME BACKGROUND

This group vacancy announcement will build a pool of pre-assessed candidates for WASH Officer temporary appointments across eight UNICEF Nigeria duty stations. Placement in the talent group does not guarantee appointment.

ROLE PURPOSE

The WASH Officer will provide entry-level professional, technical, operational and administrative support throughout the WASH programming cycle, helping improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for vulnerable children and communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research and analyse WASH, health, social, economic and policy trends.
  • Collect, verify and synthesise information for situation analysis and planning.
  • Support development of WASH outcomes, outputs, strategies, indicators and workplans.
  • Participate in monitoring, evaluation and sector reviews.
  • Undertake field visits, surveys and programme monitoring.
  • Prepare programme and donor reports.
  • Monitor resources and compliance with UNICEF and donor requirements.
  • Provide technical and operational support to government and NGO partners.
  • Support humanitarian preparedness and response.
  • Draft advocacy, partnership and resource-mobilisation materials.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Public Health, Social Sciences, Behaviour Change Communication, Sanitary Engineering or another related field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in programme management, WASH, sanitation and hygiene promotion, water quality or water supply.
  • Proposal writing, report drafting, planning, monitoring and results-delivery skills.
  • Fluency in English.
