JOB SUMMARY
The WASH Field Assistant will support and supervise day-to-day implementation of WASH infrastructure works at El Miskin Camp in Jere LGA, Borno State. The assignment covers rehabilitation of two existing boreholes, construction and commissioning of one new borehole, installation of 20 water points or tap stands, and rehabilitation of 15 priority sanitation blocks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support daily supervision of WASH construction and rehabilitation works.
- Monitor contractors and site workers and verify progress against approved designs, workplans, Bills of Quantities and technical specifications.
- Conduct routine site inspections, take measurements and check construction materials.
- Report defects, delays, poor workmanship, unsafe practices and deviations from approved standards.
- Promote compliance with relevant safety, environmental and WASH standards.
- Maintain accurate records of work progress, materials, labour and equipment deployed.
- Prepare timely field reports and photographic documentation.
- Engage camp management, WASH committees and community representatives.
- Collect feedback on the safety, accessibility and functionality of WASH facilities.
- Support inspection, testing, commissioning, snag-list follow-up and handover of completed facilities.
- Escalate technical, operational, protection or safety concerns promptly.
- Work under the overall supervision of the DDRR Programme Manager and in technical coordination with the designated WASH focal point.
- Exercise the team-management responsibility attached to the assignment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- University degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Public Health Engineering or a related discipline, with at least two years of relevant practical experience; or
- Diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Public Health Engineering, WASH, Construction or a related discipline, with at least four years of relevant field experience.
- At least four years of demonstrable experience in WASH, construction, water supply, sanitation or related field activities.
- At least four years of experience supporting or monitoring construction, rehabilitation, operation or maintenance of WASH facilities.
- Experience with boreholes, water-distribution points and sanitation facilities is required.
- Experience conducting site inspections, taking measurements, checking materials and tracking work against approved plans or Bills of Quantities.
- Experience working with contractors, construction workers and community stakeholders.
- At least four years of experience in Northeast Nigeria.
- Fluency in English, Hausa and Kanuri.
- Good documentation and reporting skills.
