JOB SUMMARY
The Technical Officer will work with MSH’s state-based technical, monitoring and supply-chain specialists to support the State Malaria Elimination Programme and State Ministry of Health.
The successful candidate will provide technical assistance for malaria case management, seasonal malaria chemoprevention and other malaria-control interventions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with MSH specialists to support state malaria case-management activities.
- Ensure that programme activities comply with national malaria policies and technical guidelines.
- Support the planning and implementation of health-worker training.
- Participate in integrated monitoring and supportive-supervision visits.
- Provide technical assistance to the State Malaria Elimination Programme and State Ministry of Health.
- Support the implementation of seasonal malaria chemoprevention activities.
- Participate in the selection and preparation of field personnel.
- Support monthly medicine distribution and accountability processes.
- Supervise consultants, field officers and other temporary programme personnel.
- Support end-of-cycle and end-of-round programme reviews.
- Prepare implementation updates, activity reports and technical reports.
- Support interventions relating to malaria prevention during pregnancy.
- Support the routine distribution and use of long-lasting insecticidal nets.
- Strengthen the technical capacity of state and Local Government Area personnel.
- Represent MSH at technical working groups and malaria coordination meetings.
- Document lessons learned, programme achievements and good practices.
- Support the development of outbreak-preparedness and response plans.
- Promote quality assurance and adherence to programme standards.
- Identify implementation and research gaps affecting malaria-control activities.
- Support the introduction of appropriate innovations to improve programme delivery.
- Collaborate with monitoring and supply-chain teams to strengthen programme performance.
- Perform other related responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Medical degree such as MD or MBBS.
- Practical clinical or community-level experience in malaria prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
- Specialised experience in malaria programming is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of five years of post-NYSC experience in public-health programming.
- Experience supporting malaria-control programmes is an advantage.
- Experience providing technical assistance to government institutions and healthcare workers.
- Experience leading health campaigns, technical teams or short-term field personnel.
- Knowledge of community-based healthcare approaches.
- Familiarity with Global Fund-supported programmes is an advantage.
- Experience preparing evidence-based technical and programme reports.
- Strong understanding of Nigeria’s malaria-control policies and health system.

- Strong programme implementation and supportive-supervision abilities.
- Ability to transfer technical knowledge to government and programme personnel.

- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
