ABOUT IITA

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is a not-for-profit agricultural research-for-development organisation working to improve food security, livelihoods and resilience in Africa.

JOB SUMMARY

The State Helpdesk Officer will operate the programme’s Plateau State helpdesk and ensure that applicants, participants, communities and partners receive accurate information and that enquiries, feedback and complaints are properly recorded and referred.

  • Contract: Two-year renewable contract
  • Location: Plateau State
  • Applicants: Suitable Nigerian nationals

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to in-person, telephone and other helpdesk enquiries promptly and courteously.
  • Explain programme eligibility, applications, training schedules, agribusiness-park access and support services.
  • Receive, record and route questions, feedback and complaints, including safeguarding-sensitive concerns.
  • Support community outreach, particularly to young women, persons with disabilities and internally displaced youth.
  • Maintain an accurate database of enquiries, referrals and resolutions.
  • Monitor local policy, regulatory and market developments affecting youth agribusiness.
  • Assist with participant registration, attendance and support during trainings and events.
  • Coordinate information with training, administration and state programme staff.
  • Prepare summary reports on helpdesk activity, recurring questions and feedback trends.
  • Uphold safeguarding, confidentiality and code-of-conduct standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Communications, Development Studies, Agriculture or a related field.
  • At least two years’ customer-service, community-engagement, front-desk or similar experience, preferably in an NGO or development programme.
  • Fluency in English and relevant local language.
  • Knowledge of Plateau State communities and sensitivity to diverse participant needs.
  • Basic Microsoft Office and digital-communication skills.
  • Strong listening, record-keeping, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Patience, discretion, professionalism and willingness to travel locally.
