ABOUT IITA

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is a not-for-profit research-for-development organisation that develops agricultural innovations for improved food security and livelihoods.

JOB SUMMARY

The State Helpdesk Officer will manage participant and community enquiries in Kano State and support the programme’s feedback, complaints, referral and information-management systems.

  • Contract: Two-year renewable contract
  • Location: Kano State
  • Applicants: Suitable Nigerian nationals

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate the programme helpdesk in person, by telephone and through other approved channels.
  • Provide accurate information on eligibility, enrolment, training, mentorship, finance linkages and starter kits.
  • Log and refer questions, complaints and safeguarding-sensitive concerns through approved mechanisms.
  • Support sensitisation activities targeting youth, women, persons with disabilities and displaced participants.
  • Maintain updated enquiry, referral and resolution records.
  • Help monitor local policies and market issues affecting youth agribusiness.
  • Assist with registration, attendance tracking and participant support at trainings and events.
  • Coordinate with state training, administration and programme colleagues.
  • Analyse common enquiry and feedback trends and prepare periodic reports.
  • Protect confidentiality and comply with IITA safeguarding and conduct requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Communications, Development Studies, Agriculture or a related field.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in customer service, community engagement, front-desk operations or a related public-facing position.
  • English and relevant local-language fluency.
  • Knowledge of Kano communities and sensitivity to the needs of diverse participants.
  • Basic Microsoft Office and digital communication skills.
  • Strong communication, listening, documentation and problem-solving ability.
  • High integrity, patience and willingness to travel locally.
