ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices is a social business working to improve access to high-quality reproductive healthcare and related services for underserved people. It is part of the MSI Reproductive Choices global partnership.
ROLE PURPOSE
The State Clinical Training Officer will train and support selected public-sector providers across assigned locations to deliver high-quality family-planning services, especially long-acting reversible contraceptives. The officer will support facility management, client safety and satisfaction, demand creation, data reporting and stakeholder engagement in Abia State.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL TRAINING AND SUPPORTIVE SUPERVISION
- Deliver effective training and supportive supervision to assigned providers in line with MSI quality-assurance standards.
- Maintain providers' competence in counselling, infection prevention, medical-emergency preparedness and service provision.
- Conduct monthly or bi-monthly supervision, coaching and mentoring based on identified needs.
- Maintain supervision checklists, action plans and competency records.
- Develop training-needs assessments using current provider data.
- Support monthly and quarterly facility reporting on training and quality-assessment activities.
- Lead state-level quality audits with the Regional Quality Assurance Advisor.
- Facilitate performance-review meetings and document effective practices and lessons.
- Plan and deliver clinical training efficiently.
SUPPLIES AND FACILITY MANAGEMENT
- Help prevent stock-outs of commodities and consumables at assigned facilities.
- Manage training supplies according to medical-supply distribution guidance.
- Ensure clinical-governance guidelines, manuals and job aids are available.
- Support referral and reporting of incidents related to family-planning and related services.
- Confirm infection-prevention materials are available and used.
- Ensure expired stock is removed from service-delivery points.
ADVOCACY AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
- Work with government, implementing partners and internal MSI teams to deliver programme targets.
- Represent MSI Nigeria at appropriate state-level meetings and platforms.
- Strengthen relationships with the State Ministry of Health, partners and public institutions.
- Connect communications and community-mobilization work with service delivery.
- Help providers and family-planning coordinators identify demand-creation options.
DATA REPORTING AND MANAGEMENT
- Ensure service data from assigned facilities are collected and entered in ORION by required deadlines.
- Validate data for accuracy, completeness, consistency and timeliness.
- Maintain chronological records for data audits.
- Support providers to use approved data-reporting tools.
- Review management-information-system data before entry.
- Prepare integrated monthly performance and clinical-quality reports.
- Support client-record audits and client-feedback collation when applicable.
LEADERSHIP
- Work collaboratively with state teams and other MSI departments.
- Promote a positive and accountable working culture.
- Undertake other duties assigned by the line manager or Regional Clinical Quality Advisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Medical Doctor, Registered Nurse, Midwife or qualification in another related Medical Science field.
- Three to five years of significant experience providing competency-based training and certification for nurses, midwives and doctors in modern family-planning methods.
- Technical expertise in long-acting reversible contraception, especially IUD and implant insertion and removal.
- Experience training national or international NGOs in Nigeria; experience with donor-funded projects is preferred.
- Experience managing facilities, clients and teams.
- Familiarity with Nigeria's cultural, social and religious contexts and international health and development issues.
- Familiarity with Abia State's geography is desirable.
