JOB SUMMARY

The Service/Quality Improvement Officer will provide leadership in capacity building, clinical mentoring and supportive supervision for integrated maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition, immunisation and malaria services.

The successful candidate will provide technical assistance at selected primary healthcare facilities, Local Government Areas and secondary healthcare facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical guidance on integrated maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition, immunisation and malaria services.
  • Support the implementation of evidence-based quality-improvement approaches.
  • Conduct training for healthcare providers and trainers.
  • Provide follow-up support, supportive supervision and clinical mentoring.
  • Strengthen quality-improvement systems at supported primary and secondary healthcare facilities.
  • Support the establishment and implementation of functional referral systems.
  • Develop strategies that increase the number of pregnant women and married adolescents delivering with skilled birth attendants.
  • Advocate for the adoption of quality-improvement practices by State Ministries of Health, State Primary Health Care Development Agencies and Local Government Authorities.
  • Engage communities, religious leaders, NGOs and government institutions to improve the use of health services.
  • Work with the monitoring and evaluation team to track programme indicators and targets.
  • Represent the programme at state-level meetings and technical working groups.
  • Contribute to annual workplans, training plans and quarterly technical reports.
  • Monitor implementation progress against approved deliverables.
  • Coordinate facility-based and community-based service-delivery approaches.
  • Support programme design, implementation, quality assurance and workplan monitoring.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Applicant must be an experienced nurse, midwife or another closely related healthcare professional.
  • A Master of Public Health, Master of Science or another relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition, immunisation or malaria programming in Africa.
  • Significant professional experience working in Nigeria is preferred.
  • Experience working with government officials, policymakers and host communities.
  • Experience designing, implementing and monitoring health-programme components.
  • Experience providing training, clinical mentoring, supportive supervision and advocacy.
  • Experience working with State Ministries of Health, State Primary Health Care Development Agencies and Local Government Authorities.
  • Experience supporting United States Government-funded or other donor-funded health programmes.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Fluency in Hausa or Fulfulde is required or strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel within Nigeria.
