JOB SUMMARY
BBC Media Action Nigeria is recruiting a Senior Research Officer – Data Management to support research activities for a reproductive-health project in northern Nigeria.
The position will work closely with the Research and Data Manager and Senior Research Officer – Digital and will report to the Head of Research and Learning.
The role is based in Abuja and will require travel to other states in Nigeria.
Contract duration: 2 years.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead day-to-day management of research agencies and freelance researchers.
- Oversee field data collection, data-management processes and research deliverables.
- Lead routine cleaning and analysis of quantitative audience-tracking survey data.
- Manage research data used in programme dashboards.
- Adapt dashboard outputs to meet stakeholder information needs.
- Support colleagues and partners to interpret and use research dashboards.
- Produce data visualisations to support programme learning and decision-making.
- Support design and implementation of qualitative research.
- Generate insights from quantitative, qualitative and digital research.
- Support monthly and quarterly learning-review sessions.
- Respond to ad hoc data requests and research deliverables.
- Translate complex research findings into clear messages for programme teams, donors and partners.
- Prepare research presentations and briefing documents.
- Present insights that inform programme production, partner engagement and donor reporting.
- Work with other BBC Media Action research teams to obtain technical support where necessary.
- Ensure research designs, tools and implementation approaches integrate safeguarding considerations.
- Participate in mandatory safeguarding and Respect at Work training.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrable experience in research design, implementation, data management, analysis and reporting.
- Strong quantitative-research experience.
- Experience managing survey data.
- Experience conducting or managing social, market, development, media or communication research.
- Ability to design and manage mixed-methods research.
- Experience evaluating social-impact interventions.
- Experience conducting or managing fieldwork in challenging environments.
- Strong report-writing and briefing skills.
- Ability to communicate research findings clearly to non-research audiences.
- Knowledge of family planning, particularly in northern Nigeria.
- Understanding of ethical and safeguarding standards in research.
- Understanding of cultural diversity and cross-cultural research within Nigeria.
- Good understanding of development communication is desirable.
- Strong Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Experience using analytical software such as SPSS, Atlas.ti and/or NVivo.
- Experience managing data dashboards.
- Hausa language ability is highly desirable.
- Previous experience with NGOs or development projects is an advantage.
- Right to work in Nigeria is required.
