Jhpiego is an international nonprofit health organisation affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. It combines technical assistance, capacity strengthening and implementation research to help countries improve health services and outcomes.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Research Officer will support data collection, analysis and reporting for the Quality Improvement Project midline and learning assessment in Jigawa, Gombe and Ekiti. Three officers will be engaged, one in each implementation state, and will work under the Research and Learning Manager to maintain consistent, secure and comparable data across locations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and refine quantitative and qualitative data-collection tools, including facility-readiness checklists, provider assessments, clinical-observation guides, client exit interviews, KII/FGD guides and the QI Maturity Index.
- Support programming and deployment of digital tools on KoboCollect or KoboToolbox, including skip logic, validation rules, calculated fields and user-access settings.
- Assist with training and practical preparation of supervisors and data collectors.
- Provide ongoing technical support during training and field implementation.
- Supervise or monitor field data collection and ensure adherence to approved protocols.
- Conduct real-time data-quality checks and resolve completeness, consistency or synchronisation issues.
- Monitor adherence to informed consent, confidentiality and ethical research requirements.
- Organise, clean, merge and manage quantitative and qualitative datasets securely.
- Support data analysis, interpretation and preparation of state-level findings.
- Maintain clear documentation of changes, decisions, field issues and corrective actions.
- Contribute to learning products, presentations and the final assessment report.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Statistics, Public Health, Social Sciences or a related field.
- At least five years of experience in research, monitoring, evaluation and learning, or impact evaluation within health or development programmes.
- Experience with mixed-methods research, field-team support and digital data collection.
- Practical ability to manage and analyse research data and produce clear reports.
- Familiarity with KoboCollect/KoboToolbox or similar mobile data platforms.
- Strong attention to ethics, confidentiality, accuracy and data security.
- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and meet demanding field timelines.
