Position: Senior Officer – Fundraising
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Employment Type: Full-time

JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Fundraising Officer will engage business communities, corporate leaders, donors, sponsors and funding institutions to increase income supporting Nigerian Red Cross Society programmes.
The position will identify and secure funding partnerships, coordinate grant-seeking activities and strengthen relationships with new and existing supporters.
The Officer will also support programme budgeting, resource management and documentation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising Strategy
- Develop and implement fundraising plans.
- Support the organisation’s resource-mobilisation strategy.
- Establish fundraising targets.
- Identify new sources of unrestricted and programme funding.
- Develop approaches for corporate giving.
- Support individual-giving and sponsorship initiatives.
- Monitor progress against fundraising objectives.
- Recommend changes where targets are not being achieved.
- Align fundraising activities with organisational priorities.
Proposal and Grant Development
- Identify local and international grant opportunities.
- Review donor requirements and eligibility conditions.
- Develop high-quality grant proposals.
- Coordinate collection of programme and budget information.
- Prepare concept notes and expressions of interest.
- Work with programme and finance teams.
- Ensure proposals are complete and submitted on time.
- Maintain records of submitted proposals.
- Track application outcomes.
- Support negotiations with funding partners.
- Improve proposals using donor feedback.
Prospect Research
- Conduct research on potential donors and sponsors.
- Identify businesses with relevant corporate-social-responsibility priorities.
- Build a pipeline of prospective supporters.
- Maintain updated prospect information.
- Analyse donor interests and giving history.
- Identify opportunities for long-term partnerships.
- Research foundations and institutional funding programmes.
- Prioritise prospects according to alignment and funding potential.
Corporate and Donor Engagement
- Engage local business communities.
- Build relationships with Nigerian business leaders.
- Conduct meetings and presentations with prospective partners.
- Cultivate relationships with corporate sponsors.
- Maintain relationships with existing donors.
- Ensure donors feel recognised and valued.
- Communicate programme progress and results.
- Respond professionally to donor enquiries.
- Arrange site visits and engagement opportunities.
- Represent the organisation at approved events.
Donor Stewardship
- Develop and implement a donor-stewardship plan.
- Provide regular updates to donors.
- Share programme and financial information where appropriate.
- Invite donors to events and organisational activities.
- Recognise donor contributions.
- Strengthen supporter retention.
- Maintain accurate donor records.
- Ensure agreed donor commitments are fulfilled.
- Coordinate acknowledgement letters and other communications.
Fundraising Materials
- Develop fundraising brochures and presentations.
- Prepare organisational profiles.
- Coordinate the production of annual reports and communication materials.
- Develop sponsorship packages.
- Prepare donor briefings and proposals.
- Work with communications teams to develop compelling programme stories.
- Ensure all materials contain accurate information.
- Maintain consistency with organisational branding.
Events and Campaigns
- Develop fundraising events.
- Coordinate planning and logistics.
- Identify event sponsors and partners.
- Prepare event budgets.
- Promote fundraising events.
- Monitor income and expenditure.
- Coordinate follow-up with participants and donors.
- Document results and lessons learned.
- Evaluate whether events achieved their objectives.
Team Coordination
- Work closely with other fundraising personnel.
- Coordinate the daily activities of fundraising support staff.
- Share information on donor and grant opportunities.
- Contribute to team planning and review meetings.
- Promote efficient fundraising workflows.
- Provide guidance and support to junior personnel.
- Ensure activities support the organisation’s overall strategy.
Programme and Financial Management
- Support the preparation of programme budgets.
- Ensure financial activities follow approved budgets.
- Monitor use of fundraising resources.
- Support financial planning.
- Maintain complete programme and fundraising documentation.
- Monitor budget variances.
- Coordinate with programme and finance departments.
- Support cost-effective management of fundraising activities.
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
Contract and Asset Support
- Review relevant contracts and management processes where assigned.
- Prepare findings and recommendations.
- Submit reports to the Assets Development and Management Department.
- Recommend improvements to contract and resource-management processes.
- Maintain accurate documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or HND in Business Administration or another relevant field.
- An MBA is an advantage.
- Six to seven years of experience in fundraising and development.
- Experience with nonprofit organisations or foundations is preferred.
- Demonstrated record of raising funds for programmes, projects or major events.
- Experience writing successful proposals.
- Experience managing donor and sponsor relationships.
- Project-management qualifications or demonstrated project-management experience.
- Existing relationships with prospective donors or sponsors are advantageous.
