PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The GIS and Data Management Department supports eHealth Africa’s programmes through geospatial intelligence, integrated data systems and evidence-based decision-making.

The department develops predictive models, interactive dashboards and scalable data pipelines that support disease surveillance, immunisation planning, emergency response and healthcare-service delivery.

The Senior Coordinator will provide technical and strategic leadership for geospatial services and support the design and implementation of organisational spatial strategies and geospatial data-governance systems.

The successful candidate will ensure that GIS capabilities are properly integrated into programme planning, monitoring and evaluation processes.

The officer will work under the supervision of the GIS and Data Management Manager and coordinate GIS teams and workflows across different programmes. ([MyJobMag][2])

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development of organisational spatial strategies, geospatial data standards and GIS system architecture.
  • Manage the delivery of GIS services across programmes and projects.
  • Ensure that geospatial products are accurate, consistent and suitable for programme decision-making.
  • Translate complex spatial information into clear and actionable insights for programme teams, donors and other stakeholders.
  • Work with management, technical advisers and field teams to identify changing spatial-data needs.
  • Develop practical GIS solutions for programme and operational challenges.
  • Collaborate with information technology, monitoring and evaluation, research and programme teams.
  • Align GIS tools with reporting systems, data-analysis platforms and organisational data pipelines.
  • Develop and manage GIS dashboards, mobile applications and digital mapping platforms.
  • Improve the visualisation and use of geospatial information for planning and decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with geospatial metadata standards and data-governance requirements.
  • Maintain proper version control for maps, spatial datasets and GIS products.
  • Promote responsible and ethical handling and sharing of geospatial and beneficiary data.
  • Monitor the performance and effectiveness of GIS tools, systems and processes.
  • Improve GIS methods based on programme feedback, performance indicators and emerging technologies.
  • Design and conduct advanced geospatial analysis.
  • Conduct health-service coverage assessments and spatial-access analysis.
  • Support catchment-area modelling and predictive mapping.
  • Produce maps, dashboards and spatial reports for project planning, monitoring and donor reporting.
  • Advise programme teams on integrating GIS into project design and implementation.
  • Support proposal-development teams with maps, spatial analysis and geographic programme approaches.
  • Ensure that proposed GIS activities meet donor and organisational requirements.
  • Coordinate GIS staff, consultants and field data-collection teams when required.
  • Provide technical guidance and quality assurance for GIS products.
  • Build the capacity of staff and partners to collect, analyse and use geospatial data.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Environmental Science, Data Science, Public Health or another related discipline.
  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Professional certification such as GISP, ACAP or an equivalent qualification is desirable. ([MyJobMag][2])

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Practical experience applying GIS to programmes or operational projects.
  • Previous experience working in a data-driven organisation.
  • Experience in the nonprofit, international-development or public-health sector is preferred.
  • Experience supporting programme planning, monitoring, evaluation or operational decision-making with GIS.
  • Experience designing and managing spatial databases, maps, dashboards and other geospatial products.
  • Experience working with field data-collection teams and mobile data-collection systems.
  • Experience coordinating GIS workflows, technical teams or multiple project requests is an advantage. ([MyJobMag][2])

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Strong knowledge of Geographic Information Systems.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Online or similar GIS platforms.
  • Experience using Power BI for data visualisation and reporting.
  • Experience using GPS equipment and mobile data-collection tools.
  • Familiarity with KoboToolbox, KoboCollect, ODK or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of spatial databases and geospatial data architecture.
  • Ability to conduct spatial analysis and produce accurate maps.
  • Knowledge of geospatial metadata and data-governance standards.
  • Ability to develop interactive dashboards and visualisation products.
  • Experience with predictive mapping, catchment modelling or health-service coverage analysis.
  • Ability to integrate GIS with other information and reporting systems.
  • Good knowledge of GIS hardware, GPS devices, surveying equipment and map-printing tools. ([MyJobMag][2])
