Position Description & Requirements

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

FHI 360 is an international nonprofit organization working to improve health, education, economic development and community well-being through evidence-based programmes and partnerships.

ROLE PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant will assume responsibility for accounting within the Nigeria Country Office and help ensure compliance with contractual, organizational and applicable financial requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Country Office treasury and cash-management activities.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Review financial transactions for completeness, accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and follow up outstanding items.
  • Support timely financial reporting and month-end accounting processes.
  • Assist with expenditure monitoring, budget controls and financial analysis.
  • Ensure finance records are properly filed and available for review or audit.
  • Work with programme, operations and finance colleagues to resolve accounting issues.
  • Support compliance with FHI 360 policies, donor requirements and internal controls.
  • Perform other finance duties assigned by the Deputy Director of Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • BSc or BA in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a recognized equivalent.
  • Five to seven years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
  • Relevant professional accounting certification is an advantage where applicable.
  • Experience with donor-funded or nonprofit financial systems is desirable.

  • Financial accounting and reporting.
  • Treasury and cash management.
  • Account reconciliation and documentation.
  • Internal controls and financial compliance.
  • Strong spreadsheet and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Accuracy, integrity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to travel within Nigeria for at least 25% of the assignment, as stated by the recruitment notice.
