New Incentives – All Babies Are Equal Initiative (NI-ABAE) is an evidence-based organisation focused on increasing childhood vaccination rates through incentive-based programmes. The organisation operates extensively in Nigeria and works to improve access to life-saving health interventions.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Safety & Security Officer will support New Incentives by monitoring and managing safety and security risks across operational locations. The role involves conducting security assessments, ensuring compliance with security procedures, monitoring incidents, maintaining communication with field teams and stakeholders, and supporting safe programme implementation.

The successful candidate should have at least two years of experience in a similar NGO or humanitarian security role and should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent field visits and short-notice assignments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.STAFF COMMUNICATIONS

Maintain regular communication with Field Managers and Field Officers regarding security conditions and operational risks.

Contact high- and medium-risk clinics regularly to obtain security updates and prioritise locations requiring closer monitoring.

Follow up with Field Officers to confirm that security advisories have been received and understood.

Document relevant security reports from staff and communicate significant issues to the Security Manager.

Confirm and follow up on security incidents reported by staff.

2.STAKEHOLDER COMMUNICATIONS

Communicate directly with stakeholders, security networks and community gatekeepers to obtain timely security updates.

Use clinic schedules to contact relevant stakeholders before scheduled field activities.

Prioritise communication with high- and medium-risk clinics and locations where heightened security concerns have been identified.

Share information indicating increased risks to staff with the appropriate security management personnel.

Support security arrangements for expatriate visits to Nigeria as assigned by senior security management.

3.SECURITY INCIDENT REVIEW

Review reported low-risk security incidents and contact staff involved to obtain additional information and clarify the circumstances surrounding incidents.

Provide recommendations and assign appropriate follow-up actions to relevant Field Managers when required.

Escalate significant or critical incidents to the appropriate level of security management.

4.SECURITY REPORTING

Prepare security reports documenting incidents, assessments, identified risks and actions taken.

Track and confirm that appropriate actions have been implemented following reported incidents or security concerns.

Ensure important security information is communicated promptly to relevant managers.

5.SECURITY ASSESSMENTS

Assist the Security Manager and Assistant Security Manager in conducting security assessments of operational clinics and LGAs through field visits and information gathering.

Conduct security assessments of facilities including hotels, training venues and other operational locations, as well as car-hire vendors.

Accompany or shadow Field Officers during clinic visits to assess compliance with security measures and identify gaps requiring additional support or training.

Contribute to security training decisions and delivery based on findings from field assessments.

6.INCIDENT MANAGEMENT

Take initial action during security incidents and promptly report incidents to the Assistant Security Manager and Security Manager.

Escalate critical incidents directly to the Security Director when required.

Perform delegated responsibilities during critical incident management under the guidance of the Security Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:

1.A Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Social Sciences or a related discipline.
2.At least 2 years of experience working in a similar security capacity within an NGO or humanitarian organisation.
3.Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
4.Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
5.Ability to conduct security assessments, analyse operational contexts and identify security risks.
6.Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
7.Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing humanitarian and operational circumstances.
8.Willingness to undertake frequent field missions and security assessments, including assignments at short notice.
9.Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear security reports.
10.Good cultural awareness and ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment.
11.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, internet browsers, smartphones and general ICT tools. Experience with Google Docs, Google Sheets or AppSheet is an advantage.
12.Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of relevant local languages is an advantage.
13.Candidates must be willing to reside in an LGA within the Funtua Zone in Niger State if selected.
14.Previous experience with military or paramilitary/security forces is preferred but is not mandatory.
