JOB SUMMARY
The Research Manager will support the design, coordination and implementation of the Quality Improvement Project midline learning assessment. Three managers will support assignments covering Jigawa, Gombe and Ekiti and will help ensure that research tools, training, fieldwork, data management, analysis and reporting are implemented consistently and to an appropriate scientific and ethical standard.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the finalisation of the assessment design, methodology, workplan and data-collection tools.
- Coordinate quantitative and qualitative fieldwork across assigned locations.
- Guide the digitisation, testing and deployment of research tools.
- Plan and facilitate training for research supervisors, officers and data collectors.
- Provide technical supervision and resolve implementation or data-quality challenges during fieldwork.
- Ensure consistent application of sampling, consent, confidentiality and research protocols.
- Monitor field progress, data completeness, accuracy, synchronisation and security.
- Coordinate data cleaning, coding, management and integrated quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Review state-level outputs and ensure comparability across the three implementation states.
- Liaise with project teams, government stakeholders, facilities and other partners as required.
- Document implementation decisions, risks, corrective actions, lessons and emerging findings.
- Contribute to presentations, learning products and the final technical report.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Systems, Social Sciences, Evaluation Science or a closely related field.
- Seven to ten years of experience in research, monitoring, evaluation and learning, or impact evaluation within health or development programmes.
- Strong mixed-methods research design, field coordination and analytical experience.
- Experience managing multi-location research teams and complex datasets.
- Interpretive and analytical experience with routine health information systems, including DHIS2, is relevant to the assignment.
- Strong scientific writing, presentation, stakeholder-management and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to research ethics, data protection and quality assurance.
