ABOUT MALARIA CONSORTIUM
Malaria Consortium is an international non-profit organisation specialising in the prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases. This consultancy supports the DISBURMA study, a retrospective multi-centre hospital cohort examining severe-malaria records for children and young people aged 0–20 years across 18 health facilities for the 2021–2025 period.
JOB SUMMARY
The Research Coordinator will lead the day-to-day coordination of the DISBURMA study, supervise research assistants, protect data quality and support the delivery of a complete, analysis-ready dataset. The consultancy is based in Abuja and requires effective coordination with participating facilities and study stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the study briefing and become fully familiar with the protocol, tools and workplan.
- Support the training and orientation of research assistants.
- Coordinate and supervise field-level data collection across participating facilities.
- Monitor progress against the approved study schedule and promptly address implementation gaps.
- Screen, validate and review submitted data for completeness, consistency and accuracy.
- Follow up data-quality queries with research assistants and participating sites.
- Maintain organised study records and support secure data management.
- Coordinate communication among research assistants, facility focal persons and the Malaria Consortium research team.
- Support data analysis and interpretation in line with the approved protocol.
- Prepare technical updates, activity reports and other required study documentation.
- Deliver a clean, complete and analysis-ready dataset and contribute to final study outputs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Postgraduate qualification in Health Sciences, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
- At least five years of relevant research or subject-matter experience.
- Demonstrated experience using electronic data-collection systems.
- Familiarity with hospital information and records-management systems.
- Strong coordination, supervision, communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple research sites and maintain high data-quality standards.
- Experience collaborating with government, NGOs or academic institutions is desirable.
- Ability to communicate with diverse technical and non-technical audiences is desirable.
- Knowledge of health-research ethics and responsible data handling is desirable.
