PROJECT BACKGROUND
Malaria Consortium is recruiting 20 Research Assistants for its Perennial Malaria Chemoprevention effectiveness-implementation study in Osun State. The study is generating evidence on the feasibility and effectiveness of delivering Sulphadoxine-Pyrimethamine PMC through routine immunisation services, to inform malaria policy in Nigeria.
PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
Support complete, timely and accurate reporting of study data from implementing health facilities to the National Malaria Data Repository.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- Extract monthly outpatient data for children under five from sentinel and private health facilities.
- Extract all-cause hospitalisation data from inpatient-care registers, including severe-malaria records.
- Close data-extraction gaps in intervention, control and private facilities.
- Validate data, identify quality problems and escalate issues for immediate correction.
ASSIGNMENT ARRANGEMENT
- Twenty assistants will receive two days of training.
- Assistants will work across eight LGAs and 80 implementing facilities, including intervention, control and private facilities.
- Each facility’s records must be completed before moving to the next.
- Each assistant is expected to extract and submit at least 60 records daily.
- DHIS2 will be used to upload data to the National Malaria Data Repository.
- The consultancy lasts 15 working days between September and October 2026.
- Payment will be made in two phases after seven and eight working days, subject to achievement of minimum deliverables.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support monthly facility data collection and reporting.
- Extract outpatient and inpatient data from intervention, control and private facilities.
- Electronically capture under-five malaria and other relevant health records using DHIS2.
- Validate rebound-phase data across the eight LGAs.
- Participate in onsite reviews with the M&E Specialist, State Project Manager and State Implementation Officer.
- Submit daily facility-level electronic reports.
- Complete rebound-phase data and previous data gaps.
- Perform other related data duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- HND or Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Humanities or Social Sciences.
- Familiarity with Osun State geography and culture.
- Previous work with primary-healthcare facility staff as an independent research assistant.
- Experience with EPI, routine immunisation and data validation.
- Strong experience extracting outpatient and inpatient data using electronic applications.
- Ability to identify relevant variables and protect data quality.
- Strong interpersonal communication and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Competence in electronic data collection, entry, collation and structured checklists.
