ABOUT MALARIA CONSORTIUM
Malaria Consortium is an international non-profit organisation specialising in the prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases. Twelve Research Assistants are required for the DISBURMA retrospective multi-centre hospital study covering severe-malaria records for patients aged 0–20 years during 2021–2025.
JOB SUMMARY
Each Research Assistant will work with the assigned project hospital to identify eligible severe-malaria cases, retrieve source records and enter accurate study data electronically. Openings are available across Jigawa, Katsina, Yobe, Kano, Niger, Kaduna, the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers, Delta, Anambra, Lagos and Taraba.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with hospital records officers and relevant ward personnel to identify eligible severe-malaria cases.
- Review admission registers, ward registers, case notes and other approved source documents.
- Extract required patient and treatment information according to the study protocol.
- Record demographic details, admission information, discharge or death status and diagnosis.
- Capture treatments, clinical signs, laboratory results, comorbidities, referrals and patient outcomes.
- Enter study data accurately into SurveyCTO or the designated electronic data-collection platform.
- Check entries for completeness and consistency before submission.
- Respond promptly to data-quality queries and make authorised corrections.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of patient and facility information.
- Produce the required case lists, extracted data and submitted electronic records within the agreed schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Applicant must currently work in the paediatric or medical ward of a participating project hospital, either as staff or as a volunteer.
- Registered nurse or midwife, or holder of a diploma/degree in a health-related discipline or an equivalent qualification.
- Significant experience supporting inpatient care.
- Experience with electronic data collection.
- Familiarity with secondary, tertiary or private hospital systems.
- Strong communication, accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
- Experience working with government, NGOs or academic teams is desirable.
- Ability to work with diverse audiences and facility teams is desirable.
- Understanding of health-research ethics, confidentiality and responsible handling of patient records is desirable.
