ORGANIZATION AND PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) is a nonprofit organization supporting public-health programmes, research, capacity development and healthcare delivery in Nigeria. This position is based within IHVN’s International Research Centre of Excellence and supports activities funded through the INFORM Africa Research Hub grant.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Research Assistant will support the day-to-day implementation of research and project activities. The position combines scientific research, documentation, data management, reporting and communications support. The post holder will help ensure project outputs are completed on time and communicated through publications, reports, events and digital platforms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development of at least two scientific publications annually.
  • Conduct literature reviews and contribute to manuscript drafts.
  • Support the preparation of at least one grant application when assigned.
  • Assist with research data collection, cleaning, analysis and visualization.
  • Draft social-media posts, event summaries, success stories and visual-content briefs for at least 95% of assigned project activities.
  • Monitor audience interactions with project communications.
  • Support project reporting and grant-reporting inputs.
  • Maintain organized project records, archives and the project’s OneDrive folder.
  • Record and circulate meeting minutes within five working days, clearly showing decisions, action points, responsible persons and timelines.
  • Support at least two capacity-development activities annually, including materials, attendance, logistics, follow-up and activity summaries.
  • Support photography, documentation and project communications.
  • Maintain grant and activity calendars.
  • Support manuscript-development processes and undertake other assigned research or administrative duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology or another relevant discipline.
  • At least one year of experience in scientific writing, project support, administration and reporting.
