Position Description & Requirements

ORGANIZATION AND PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria is a nonprofit organization addressing infectious and non-infectious diseases through prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, capacity building, care and support. The position sits within the International Research Centre of Excellence and supports the INFORM Africa Research Hub grant.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Research Assistant will support daily research and project implementation while combining scientific-research, documentation, data-management and communications responsibilities. The post holder will help deliver research outputs on time and communicate project achievements appropriately.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support at least two scientific publications annually through literature reviews and manuscript drafting.
  • Support preparation of one grant application when assigned.
  • Draft approved social-media posts, event summaries, success stories and visual-content briefs for project activities.
  • Monitor online engagement with approved science-communication content.
  • Contribute timely information to project and grant reports.
  • Maintain accurate and current project records, archives and the project OneDrive folder.
  • Prepare complete meeting minutes within five working days, identifying decisions, action points, responsible persons and timelines.
  • Support at least two capacity-building activities annually through training-material preparation, attendance records, logistics, participant follow-up and activity summaries.
  • Assist with research-data collection, cleaning, analysis and visualization.
  • Support photography, grant-calendar maintenance, manuscript development and other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology or another relevant discipline.
  • At least one year of experience in scientific writing, project-support roles, administration and reporting.
  • Additional professional certification: Not specified.
