ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
Première Urgence Internationale is a nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonreligious international humanitarian organization assisting populations affected by conflict, displacement, natural disasters and economic collapse. PUI has operated in Nigeria since 2016, delivering health, nutrition, protection and psychosocial-support services.
ROLE PURPOSE
Under the Protection Officer, the Protection Assistant will support safe, dignified and inclusive protection activities in Pulka and surrounding communities, including protection monitoring, outreach, referrals, awareness activities, information management and accountability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct household visits, key-informant interviews, focus-group discussions, safety audits and service mapping.
- Identify protection risks, service gaps and barriers affecting vulnerable people.
- Collect information using approved paper or electronic tools, including Kobo.
- Support protection helpdesks and provide accurate information about services.
- Conduct sensitization on rights, GBV, child protection and referral pathways.
- Engage community leaders, volunteers, women-led groups and other community structures.
- Screen people requiring specialized support and make safe, consent-based referrals.
- Follow up referrals while respecting confidentiality and data protection.
- Support complaints and feedback mechanisms.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly activity reports.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Political Science, Law, Psychology, Social Work, International Development or a related discipline.
- One to two years of relevant protection, humanitarian or community-based experience.
- Experience in community outreach, protection monitoring or field-data collection.
- Understanding of protection principles and referral pathways.
- Basic knowledge of GBV principles is desirable.
- Knowledge of Pulka, Gwoza and the surrounding context is an advantage.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Community mobilization; safe referral; interviewing and qualitative data collection; confidentiality; Kobo, CommCare or similar tools; Microsoft Office; reporting; respectful communication. Hausa or Kanuri is an advantage. English requirement: Not specified.
