Position Description & Requirements
The Project Coordinator will ensure the effective and timely implementation of an education pilot project funded by the Akelius Foundation and implemented by Plan International Nigeria in Kano State.
The successful candidate will coordinate project activities, budgets, stakeholders, monitoring processes, digital learning resources and reporting requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate project implementation in line with approved workplans, budgets, donor agreements and timelines.
- Develop and maintain detailed implementation plans, activity trackers and milestone-monitoring tools.
- Monitor project progress and ensure the timely delivery of outputs and deliverables.
- Coordinate project inception meetings, review meetings, quarterly learning sessions and close-out activities.
- Monitor monthly expenditures, budget-versus-actual reports and project burn rates.
- Support financial forecasting and necessary budget revisions.
- Coordinate the deployment and monitoring of Akelius devices and digital learning resources across participating learning centres.
- Coordinate learner orientation, facilitator training, coaching, mentoring and technical support activities.
- Coordinate monitoring, evaluation, research and learning activities, including baseline assessments, periodic assessments and endline evaluations.
- Document lessons learned, innovations, good practices and project success stories.
- Coordinate engagement with government education agencies, community structures, the Akelius Foundation, Plan International Sweden and other stakeholders.
- Prepare and submit quality monthly, quarterly and donor reports.
- Work closely with Finance, Supply Chain, MERL, Safeguarding, Communications and Programme Support teams.
- Identify project implementation risks and ensure that appropriate mitigation measures are applied.
- Integrate safeguarding, gender equality, disability inclusion and accountability into project activities.
- Represent Plan International Nigeria at technical meetings, project reviews and stakeholder engagements.
- Perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Project Management, Development Studies, Social Sciences or a related field.
- A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
- Completion of the National Youth Service Corps programme is compulsory.
- Minimum of five years of experience coordinating donor-funded education or development programmes.
- Strong knowledge of project coordination and education programme implementation.
- Experience working within Nigeria’s basic or non-formal education sector.
- Experience working with government education stakeholders and community structures.
- Experience in planning, budgeting, implementation tracking and project management.
- Knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, research, learning and reporting processes.
- Experience implementing digital learning or education technology programmes.
- Experience with Accelerated Basic Education Programmes or other alternative education programmes is desirable.
- Experience using Akelius or similar digital learning platforms is an advantage.
- Previous experience with Plan International or another international NGO is desirable.

- Ability to coordinate multiple activities and meet deadlines.

- Understanding of safeguarding, gender equality, disability inclusion and accountability.
- Ability to document lessons learned and use evidence to improve programme quality.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Knowledge of Hausa is an advantage.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
