JOB SUMMARY

The Principal Investigator/Scientific Research Expert will provide senior scientific leadership for a health-research assignment based in Abuja. The consultant will guide research design and implementation, safeguard scientific and ethical quality, support analysis and interpretation, and ensure that final products are credible, clear and useful for programme learning and decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide overall scientific direction for the research assignment and ensure alignment with the approved objectives.
• Lead or guide the refinement of study questions, methodology, sampling and data-collection instruments.
• Review protocols and ensure compliance with ethical approvals, informed-consent, confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
• Advise on quantitative and qualitative research methods and quality-assurance procedures.
• Guide the preparation, testing and implementation of research tools and field procedures.
• Provide technical oversight to research managers, officers and data-collection teams.
• Review field progress and address scientific, methodological or data-quality risks.
• Guide data-management, analysis and interpretation of findings.
• Ensure that conclusions and recommendations are supported by the evidence.
• Lead or contribute to technical reports, presentations, learning products and dissemination activities.
• Engage Jhpiego, government and other relevant stakeholders on scientific and implementation issues.
• Maintain the integrity, security and confidentiality of study information.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Advanced academic and professional expertise in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Systems, Evaluation Science, Social Science research or another relevant discipline.
• Substantial experience leading health or development research from design through data collection, analysis and reporting.
• Strong command of mixed-methods research and applied evaluation.
• Demonstrated scientific writing, analytical, facilitation and stakeholder-engagement ability.
• Experience supervising multidisciplinary research teams and assuring data quality.
• Thorough understanding of research ethics, informed consent, confidentiality and responsible data management.
• Ability to deliver high-quality technical outputs within agreed consultancy timelines.
