ABOUT INNOVATIONS FOR POVERTY ACTION (IPA)
Innovations for Poverty Action is a research and policy nonprofit that works with researchers and decision-makers to identify and advance effective solutions to poverty. IPA conducts rigorous evaluations and helps institutions use evidence to improve policies and programmes.
JOB SUMMARY
The Policy Support Intern will support IPA Nigeria’s Policy and Evidence-to-Action team in advancing evidence-informed policymaking and stakeholder engagement. The role offers practical exposure to policy research, evidence synthesis, strategic convening and evidence-to-policy translation, particularly across women’s economic empowerment, financial inclusion, gender, governance, social protection and inclusive development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct desk reviews and literature scans on priority policy and development issues.
- Support preparation of policy briefs, evidence summaries, concept notes, presentations and technical reports.
- Translate research findings into practical policy and programme insights.
- Map relevant policies, frameworks, stakeholders and institutions.
- Support stakeholder meetings, workshops, technical engagements, policy dialogues and dissemination events.
- Prepare meeting notes, engagement summaries and follow-up trackers.
- Assist thematic working groups, research-coordination activities and learning-agenda development.
- Help identify policy and evidence gaps that may inform future research.
- Organise institutional data, policy documents and evidence repositories.
- Support MEL activities linked to policy engagement and institutional strengthening.
- Document lessons, institutional insights and opportunities for evidence use.
- Assist with scheduling, coordination and communication with stakeholders and partners.
- Participate in team meetings, training and organisational learning activities.
- Provide other support assigned by the Policy and Evidence-to-Action team.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Background in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Development Studies, Public Health, Gender Studies, International Development, Social Sciences or a related field.
- Strong writing, research and analytical skills.
- Interest in evidence-informed policymaking, governance, gender, women’s economic empowerment and development programming.
- Ability to synthesise information clearly and concisely.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
