ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international medical humanitarian organization delivering emergency medical assistance to populations affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters and barriers to healthcare.
ROLE PURPOSE
Working with the Pharmacy Supervisor and logistics team, the Pharmacy Storekeeper will manage medical-warehouse storage activities and help maintain the continuous availability, quality and security of medicines, consumables and other medical supplies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive orders and deliveries and report differences against cargo manifests or supporting documents.
- Store medical supplies according to MSF systems and pharmaceutical standards.
- Monitor temperature, humidity and other required storage conditions.
- Maintain accurate stock-card and inventory-system entries.
- Participate in regular physical inventories, including emergency-preparedness stock.
- Monitor alert thresholds, stock-outs, expiry dates and items approaching expiration.
- Apply first-expiry, first-out stock-rotation practices.
- Prepare, package and dispatch orders to wards, departments and other consumption units.
- Report unusual consumption patterns, damaged items, shortages and security incidents.
- Separate and secure expired, damaged, recalled or quarantined items.
- Restrict pharmacy access to authorized personnel.
- Maintain pharmacy cleanliness and support cold-chain management.
- Complete required stock and movement reports.
- Perform related duties assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or another relevant qualification in pharmacy management, pharmaceutical studies, supply-chain management or a related discipline.
- At least two years of relevant pharmacy-store or medical-warehouse experience.
- Experience handling medicines, consumables and medical supplies is preferred.
- Previous experience with MSF or another humanitarian organization is an advantage.
- Relevant inventory or supply-chain certification is beneficial.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Pharmaceutical stock and expiry management.
- Inventory control and accurate record keeping.
- Cold-chain and storage-condition monitoring.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other relevant computer applications.
- Results and quality orientation.
- Teamwork, cooperation, service orientation and flexibility.
- Hausa and other relevant local-language ability is desirable.
- English ability appropriate to the position.
