Position Description & Requirements

ORGANIZATION AND ROLE BACKGROUND

International Medical Corps provides lifesaving healthcare and recovery support in crisis-affected communities. This pharmacy position supports safe dispensing, patient counselling and accountable management of medicines and medical commodities.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Dispensing Pharmacist will dispense medicines, counsel beneficiaries and maintain accurate records of pharmacy consumption, distribution and stock movement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Dispense medicines and medical commodities and provide clear patient instructions and counselling.
  • Issue medicines to wards in health-facility settings and maintain distribution records.
  • Manage medicines using accepted practices, including expiry tracking, FEFO, bin cards, stock cards, registers, reorder thresholds and appropriate cleanliness.
  • Maintain daily, weekly and monthly consumption records and submit reports on time.
  • Prepare replenishment requests to prevent stock-outs and ensure essential medicines remain available.
  • Identify over- and under-utilized items and adjust requests appropriately.
  • Report impending stock-outs, damaged medicines, expiries and other irregularities promptly.
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational departments to integrate services.
  • Promote correct medicine use and adherence among beneficiaries.
  • Supervise junior pharmacists or pharmacy assistants where applicable.
  • Conduct periodic and annual inventories of pharmaceuticals and medical commodities.
  • Prepare regulatory and management reports, including controlled-drug and expired-commodity reports.
  • Comply with administrative directives, the International Medical Corps Code of Conduct and humanitarian principles.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy; an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Typically at least three years of relevant dispensing experience.
  • Registration with the Ministry of Health or applicable Nigerian professional authority.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Medicine dispensing and patient counselling.
  • Pharmaceutical inventory and FEFO management.
  • Consumption reporting and replenishment planning.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Strong confidentiality, interpersonal ability and work ethic.
  • Initiative and teamwork.
  • Basic English communication and ability to communicate in relevant national and regional languages.
