ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
Première Urgence Internationale is a nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonreligious international humanitarian organization supporting people affected by marginalization, conflict, natural disasters and economic collapse. PUI has worked in Nigeria since 2016 and provides health, nutrition, protection and psychosocial-support services in Borno State and other operational areas.
ROLE PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Health and Nutrition Project Manager and technical supervision of the Mission Pharmacist, the Pharmacist will ensure the effective functioning of PUI base pharmacies and the reliable supply of quality medicines and medical equipment to field projects and supported health facilities.
The post holder will manage storage, distribution, inventory and consumption information and maintain a safe, reliable and documented pharmaceutical supply chain.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
- Supervise monthly collection and entry of pharmacy stock, distribution and consumption data.
- Ensure medicines and supplies are delivered to supported sites and facilities using required records and delivery documents.
- Ensure first-aid and post-exposure-prophylaxis kits are replenished.
- Maintain reliable information concerning stock, consumption and use of medicines and health products for each project.
SUPPLY MANAGEMENT
- Collaborate with the supply-chain team concerning delivery, receipt and quality control of medicines.
- Inform logistics and medical teams about non-compliant items.
- Support planning, preparation, transport, distribution and delivery of medicines from central stock to operational bases.
- Coordinate advance transport arrangements with the logistics department.
STOCK MANAGEMENT
- Participate in monthly physical inventories and conduct random stock checks.
- Investigate discrepancies between physical and theoretical stock and report findings.
- Maintain appropriate temperature, humidity, lighting, safety, classification, labelling and restricted access.
- Ensure storage arrangements comply with Nigerian requirements, including rules concerning narcotic and psychoactive medicines.
- Monitor base and health-facility pharmacy stock management.
- Ensure pharmacy procedures and tools are understood and applied.
- Monitor special pharmacy stocks, including vehicle and first-aid kits.
- Report irrational medicine consumption.
- Quarantine expired or damaged products appropriately.
- Support approved medicine donations, loans and exchanges.
CAPACITY STRENGTHENING
- Train pharmacy assistants and health-facility personnel in stock management, rational medicine use, substitution and consumption analysis.
- Train personnel concerning pharmaceutical-waste management.
- Strengthen supported health-facility teams to manage pharmacy responsibilities independently.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.
- Registration with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.
- At least two years of pharmaceutical-sector experience.
- Previous NGO or INGO experience is an advantage.
- Experience in medicine supply, storage, stock management and reporting.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Sagastock knowledge is an advantage.
- Strong report-writing ability.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Hausa or Kanuri is an advantage.
- Strong organization, integrity, confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and in a stressful environment.
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Flexibility, availability, communication and teamwork.
