JOB DESCRIPTION SNIPPET:
The United Nations Environment Programme is seeking a consultant to coordinate implementation activities for the Nigeria Methane Emissions Reduction Pilot Programme (NiMERP) and support the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS). The assignment involves stakeholder engagement, coordination with government institutions, support for methane-related scientific projects and collaboration with environmental and climate partners in Nigeria and other priority countries in the region.

JOB SUMMARY:
The consultant will support the on-the-ground execution of the Nigeria Methane Emissions Reduction Pilot Programme and maintain relationships with stakeholders in Nigeria in support of NiMERP and other IMEO priorities.
The role will also support engagement under the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS) in Nigeria and other priority countries in the region.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Facilitate the execution of activities under the Nigeria Methane Emissions Reduction Pilot Programme.
2.Maintain working relationships with key government and other stakeholders involved in methane measurement and mitigation in Nigeria.
3.Support stakeholder engagement and coordination for the Methane Alert and Response System.
4.Work with relevant stakeholders to support methane-related data, scientific and environmental project activities.
5.Coordinate with UNEP and IMEO colleagues, technical partners and other relevant teams to support delivery of programme objectives.
6.Support the delivery of assigned workstreams and ensure that project activities are completed to the required standard.
7.Provide timely communication to UNEP staff and external stakeholders about progress, issues and relevant project developments.
8.Help maintain effective coordination between technical, data, communications and stakeholder engagement activities.
9.Contribute to the effectiveness and management of assigned work and ensure timely completion of tasks.
REQUIREMENTS:
1.A master's degree or equivalent in Environmental Policy, Management, Political Science, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Environmental or Climate Policy, or a related field.
2.At least five years of combined full-time or part-time professional experience relevant to energy, climate change, sustainable development, environmental projects or development work.
3.Experience interacting with government agencies in Nigeria.
4.Experience managing scientific projects in Nigeria.
5.Experience working with climate and development stakeholders, international organisations and technical partners.
6.Familiarity with greenhouse gas and methane emissions in at least one sector, such as energy, agriculture or waste.
7.Strong coordination and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and competing priorities.
8.Experience coordinating technical, data, stakeholder engagement and communications teams.
9.Fluency in written and spoken English. Additional languages are an advantage.
CONTRACT AND WORK ARRANGEMENT:
1.Duty station: Remote, based in Nigeria.
2.Contract type: Individual consultancy.
3.Expected duration: 12 months.
4.Reporting line: MARS Programme Manager.
5.The position supports UNEP's methane emissions and climate mitigation work, including engagement with Nigerian government stakeholders.
