Position Description & Requirements

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is recruiting a National Project Officer for Private Sector Engagement in Abuja, Nigeria. The successful candidate will support private-sector partnerships, corporate outreach, resource mobilisation, programme development and stakeholder engagement. The role also involves maintaining partnership records, preparing reports and supporting due diligence and compliance processes.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a United Nations-related organisation established in 1951. It works with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners to promote humane and orderly migration, provide assistance to people on the move and support governments in addressing migration-related challenges.

JOB SUMMARY:

The National Project Officer – Private Sector Engagement will support and strengthen IOM Nigeria’s private-sector engagement portfolio. Working under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Head of Programme Coordination and Innovation, the officer will contribute to partnership development, corporate engagement, resource mobilisation, programme development and relationship management.

The role also involves collaboration with IOM's Private Sector Partnerships Unit and relevant internal teams to identify partnership opportunities and ensure that engagements comply with organisational policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Private Sector Engagement

1.Support the implementation of IOM Nigeria's Private Sector Engagement Strategy through targeted outreach, relationship management and engagement with companies, foundations, chambers of commerce and corporate networks.
2.Map private-sector stakeholders and maintain an updated database to identify partnership, visibility, corporate social responsibility and fundraising opportunities.
3.Support engagement with diaspora networks, government ministries, private-sector organisations, civil society organisations and international financial institutions.
4.Identify private-sector institutions relevant to priority areas such as climate action, youth employment and regular migration pathways, and facilitate targeted collaboration.
5.Support relationship-building with international financial institutions to explore funding, partnership and programme opportunities aligned with IOM's strategic objectives.
6.Liaise with regional private-sector focal points in Dakar and collaborate with headquarters teams to align engagement activities and explore global opportunities.

Knowledge Management, Communication and Reporting

7.Maintain accurate records of private-sector, diaspora and international financial institution engagements, donor communications and programme files using relevant IOM systems.
8.Draft visibility materials, resource mobilisation documents and partnership engagement materials, including reports on diaspora and international financial institution contributions.
9.Prepare reports, briefing notes, outreach packages, presentations and corporate communication materials.
10.Document best practices, collect lessons learned and contribute to knowledge-sharing activities within the Programme Coordination and Innovation and Private Sector Partnerships units.

Compliance, Due Diligence and Coordination

11.Ensure that due diligence, legal vetting and contractual procedures are followed for private-sector partnerships.
12.Coordinate with relevant legal, finance and partnership teams on risk management, compliance and contractual arrangements.
13.Support compliance with IOM's private-sector partnership policies, including risk assessment, ethical screening and internal controls.
14.Ensure alignment of private-sector engagements with IOM Nigeria's resource mobilisation objectives and the Nigeria United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.

Coordination and Representation

15.Represent IOM Nigeria at meetings, corporate forums, corporate social responsibility events, stakeholder engagements and private-sector platforms.
16.Coordinate with federal and state government representatives, private associations and development partners on private-sector initiatives.
17.Support regional private-sector engagement efforts in West Africa in collaboration with the relevant regional office.

Other Responsibilities

18.Support monitoring of key performance indicators relating to private-sector partnerships, outreach and resource mobilisation.
19.Perform other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education

1.A Master's degree in International Relations, International Development, Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution, together with at least five years of relevant professional experience; or
2.A Bachelor's degree in the above fields from an accredited academic institution, together with at least seven years of relevant professional experience.

Relevant Experience

3.Experience in private-sector engagement, corporate social responsibility initiatives, partnership development or corporate fundraising.
4.Experience providing technical guidance on private-sector engagement within development or humanitarian sectors.
5.Experience mapping corporate actors, conducting outreach, facilitating partnerships and managing donor relationships.
6.Experience in programme development, proposal writing or resource mobilisation is an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

7.Strong communication, writing and organisational skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
8.Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation concepts, approaches and methodologies.
9.Experience preparing donor reports in humanitarian or development settings.
10.Familiarity with results-based management and strategic planning approaches.
11.Strong analytical and planning skills, with the ability to build working relationships with government authorities, national and international institutions and NGOs.
12.Ability to supervise and train support staff and work effectively with colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
13.Ability to work accurately under pressure, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate initiative and exercise sound judgement.
14.Good computer literacy, including experience with database applications.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required. Language proficiency may be evaluated during the selection process.

CONTRACT AND WORK ARRANGEMENT:

1.Duty station: Abuja, Nigeria.
2.Recruitment category: National Officer, NO-C.
3.Contract type: Special Short Term Graded appointment, for up to nine months.
4.Initial contract duration: Six months.
5.Appointment is subject to funding confirmation and the organisation's applicable recruitment, medical fitness, security clearance and other employment requirements.
