ABOUT IOM:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works with governments, international organisations, civil society and other partners to promote humane and orderly migration, protect people on the move and support sustainable solutions to migration and displacement.
JOB SUMMARY:
The National Project Officer – Private Sector Engagement will support and strengthen IOM Nigeria’s private sector engagement portfolio under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Head of Programme Coordination and Innovation.
The role will focus on strategic outreach to private sector actors, development of partnerships, resource mobilization, programme development, corporate liaison, due diligence and strengthening IOM’s relationships with private sector stakeholders at national, regional and continental levels.
The position is based in Abuja and is classified as a National Officer position at NO-C level. The contract is a Special Short Term Graded arrangement of up to 9 months, with an initial contract duration of 6 months.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
PRIVATE SECTOR ENGAGEMENT
Support the implementation of IOM Nigeria’s Private Sector Engagement Strategy through targeted outreach, relationship management and engagement with companies, foundations, chambers of commerce and corporate networks.
Map private sector stakeholders and maintain an updated database to identify potential partnership, visibility, Corporate Social Responsibility and fundraising opportunities.
Engage with diaspora networks, government ministries, private sector organisations, civil society organisations and international financial institutions.
Liaise with regional private sector focal points and the IOM headquarters Private Sector Partnerships Unit to align engagements and maximise partnership opportunities.
Identify private sector institutions relevant to priority thematic areas such as climate action, youth employment and regular migration pathways and facilitate targeted collaboration.
PARTNERSHIP AND PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT
Identify and develop new private sector and international financial institution programme opportunities through research, stakeholder mapping and development of partner profiles and guidance materials.
Support the design of approaches for expanding IOM Nigeria’s private sector and international financial institution portfolio.
Assist programme teams in developing strategic partnerships and networking opportunities with donors, international financial institutions and other partners.
Develop value propositions for private sector partners and align their CSR priorities with IOM programmes.
Support the design of scalable partnership models and mechanisms in coordination with the Programme Coordination and Innovation unit.
Contribute to innovative initiatives aimed at increasing private sector participation in migration governance.
RESOURCE MOBILIZATION AND CORPORATE RELATIONS
Support relationship-building with international financial institutions and private sector organisations to identify potential funding, partnership and programme opportunities.
Contribute to resource mobilisation activities and the development of proposals, concept materials and partnership documentation.
Maintain effective communication with corporate stakeholders and support stewardship activities.
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT, COMMUNICATION AND REPORTING
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of private sector, diaspora and international financial institution engagements, donor communications and programme files in relevant IOM systems.
Draft visibility materials, resource mobilisation documents and partnership engagement materials.
Prepare reports, briefing notes, outreach packages, presentations and corporate communication products as required.
Document best practices and lessons learned and contribute to knowledge sharing within the relevant IOM units.
COMPLIANCE, DUE DILIGENCE AND COORDINATION
Ensure required due diligence, legal vetting and contractual processes are followed for private sector partnerships.
Coordinate with relevant IOM units, including legal, procurement, finance and programme teams, on risk management, compliance and contractual arrangements.
Support adherence to IOM private sector partnership policies, including risk assessment, ethical screening and internal controls.
Ensure private sector engagement is aligned with IOM Nigeria’s resource mobilisation objectives and the Nigeria United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
COORDINATION AND REPRESENTATION
Represent IOM Nigeria at corporate forums, CSR events, stakeholder meetings, private sector platforms and other relevant engagements.
Coordinate with federal and state government actors, private associations and development partners on private sector engagement initiatives.
Support regional private sector engagement efforts in West Africa in collaboration with the IOM Regional Office.
MONITORING AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
Support the monitoring of key performance indicators related to private sector partnerships, outreach and resource mobilisation.
Maintain appropriate records and tracking systems to assess engagement activities and partnership outcomes.
Provide analytical inputs to support management decisions and programme development.
OTHER DUTIES
Perform other related responsibilities assigned by management in support of IOM Nigeria’s private sector engagement and programme objectives.
REQUIREMENTS:
A Master’s degree in International Relations, International Development, Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, Law or a related field with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields with at least 7 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in private sector engagement, Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, partnership development or corporate fundraising.
Experience providing technical guidance on private sector engagement within development or humanitarian settings.
Experience mapping corporate actors, conducting stakeholder outreach, facilitating partnerships and managing donor relationships.
Experience in programme development, proposal writing or resource mobilisation is an advantage.
Strong communication, writing and organisational skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation concepts, approaches and methodologies.
Demonstrated experience in donor report writing within humanitarian and/or development settings.
Experience using Results-Based Management and other strategic planning approaches.
Strong analytical and planning skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with government authorities, international institutions, NGOs and other stakeholders.
Capacity to supervise and train support staff and work effectively with colleagues from varied cultural and professional backgrounds.
Ability to work accurately under pressure with a high level of confidentiality, initiative and sound judgement.
Strong personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, results orientation and creative thinking.
Good computer literacy, including familiarity with database applications.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
