Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative is recruiting a Mental Health Specialist to provide mental health and psychosocial support services at a One-Stop Shop under the Global Fund GC7 programme in Anambra State.

Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative is an indigenous non-profit organisation established to support health, economic and human-development programmes in Nigeria.
The Global Fund Nigeria TB/HIV Reach, Integration and Impact Project aims to strengthen the prevention, identification and treatment of HIV among general and key populations in Anambra State.
The programme uses facility and community-based approaches to improve HIV prevention, care, treatment and support services, including services for pregnant and breastfeeding women, adolescents, young women and members of key populations.
Role Purpose
The Mental Health Specialist will provide individual, family and group-based mental health and psychosocial support to clients receiving services at the One-Stop Shop.
The consultant will work within a multidisciplinary team and use a case-management and biopsychosocial approach to assess clients, develop appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plans and connect clients to health, social and other specialised services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group mental health and psychosocial support to identified clients.
- Ensure that clients receive coordinated and client-centred services linking healthcare with other relevant support services.
- Work with clinicians, counsellors, case managers and other members of the multidisciplinary team at the One-Stop Shop.
- Conduct psychological screening and mental-health assessments for beneficiaries.
- Develop individualised treatment, care and rehabilitation plans based on identified needs.
- Provide psychological counselling and emotional support to beneficiaries.
- Provide psychoeducation to beneficiaries and their family members.
- Support family members to understand and respond appropriately to the mental-health needs of beneficiaries.
- Facilitate group therapy, peer-support groups and other structured psychosocial sessions.
- Conduct home visits where additional psychosocial support or follow-up is required.
- Organise community awareness, rehabilitation and mental-health sensitisation activities.
- Support activities addressing substance-use disorders, addiction and associated mental-health conditions.
- Participate in weekly clinical supervision and multidisciplinary case-review meetings.
- Maintain complete, accurate and updated beneficiary records.
- Properly document assessments, counselling sessions, treatment plans, referrals and follow-up visits.
- Refer beneficiaries requiring specialised mental-health, medical, legal or social services.
- Protect the confidentiality, dignity and safety of all beneficiaries.
- Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology may also be considered. A relevant postgraduate qualification will be an advantage.
- At least six months of experience working within a multidisciplinary mental-health, healthcare or psychosocial-support team.
- Experience working with people experiencing mental-health challenges.
- Experience providing counselling, psychological assessment or psychosocial support.
- Knowledge or experience in substance-use-disorder treatment and addiction management will be an advantage.
- Previous training in case management or the biopsychosocial approach will be an advantage.
- Experience working with key populations will be an added advantage.
- Ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken English.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of health-information databases such as DHIS or NMRS will be an advantage.
