Position Description & Requirements

ABOUT ACTION AGAINST HUNGER:

Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian organization working to save lives, prevent and treat undernutrition, and support communities affected by crisis. In Nigeria, the organization implements multi-sectoral humanitarian and development programmes covering health, nutrition, WASH, MHPSS, food security and livelihoods, and social protection.

JOB SUMMARY:

The MHPSS-P Specialist will provide technical leadership and capacity-building support for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support programming. The role will support staff, local partners, community workers and volunteers and contribute to integrating MHPSS into health, nutrition and community-based interventions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Design and develop MHPSS training packages for MHPSS staff, local partners, community workers and volunteers in line with relevant international standards and protocols.
2.Conduct capacity-building needs assessments and identify technical areas requiring training, coaching and on-the-job support.
3.Deliver training, coaching and clinical supervision to strengthen the technical capacity of MHPSS and related programme staff.
4.Provide technical support for the integration of MHPSS approaches into health, nutrition and community-based interventions.
5.Support the development and implementation of quality MHPSS and protection activities in line with programme standards.
6.Provide technical guidance to field teams and partners on appropriate psychosocial support approaches and referral pathways.
7.Contribute to monitoring programme quality and identifying technical gaps requiring corrective action.
8.Support coordination, learning and knowledge sharing on MHPSS and protection approaches.

REQUIREMENTS:

1.Relevant university degree and professional experience in psychology, mental health, social work, counselling, public health or a related discipline.
2.Relevant experience in MHPSS programming and capacity building.
3.Experience providing technical support, training, coaching or supervision to programme staff.
4.Knowledge of MHPSS approaches, humanitarian standards and protection principles.
5.Strong communication, facilitation, interpersonal and analytical skills.
6.Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and community-based structures.
7.Strong written and spoken English.
