Location: Maiduguri, Borno State
Employment Type: Full-time, onsite
Salary Range: ₦750,000–₦1,000,000 monthly
Reporting Line: Programme Manager
JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Supervisor will provide overall clinical and operational oversight of the Cholera Treatment Unit.
The position will ensure quality cholera case management, supervise clinical personnel, coordinate infection-prevention measures, oversee medical data and support emergency-response operations in accordance with organisational and national protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Oversight
- Ensure standardised cholera case-management protocols are implemented.
- Supervise doctors, nurses, community health workers and other clinical personnel.
- Oversee triage, assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
- Ensure dehydration is correctly classified.
- Supervise oral rehydration, intravenous-fluid treatment and other approved interventions.
- Review complicated cases and provide clinical guidance.
- Coordinate referrals for patients requiring advanced care.
- Conduct clinical audits.
- Ensure patient documentation is complete.
- Monitor service quality and initiate corrective action.
Treatment-Unit Management
- Oversee daily clinical operations.
- Organise patient flow from triage through discharge.
- Prepare and monitor staff schedules.
- Ensure adequate staffing during all operational periods.
- Conduct supportive supervision and bedside mentoring.
- Organise refresher training on cholera case management.
- Identify staff-capacity gaps.
- Promote patient-centred and ethical care.
- Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.
Infection Prevention and Control
- Ensure strict IPC measures throughout the unit.
- Supervise hand hygiene, PPE use, chlorine preparation, cleaning and waste disposal.
- Ensure patients are appropriately isolated.
- Monitor decontamination procedures.
- Address infection-prevention failures immediately.
- Promote safe working conditions for clinical personnel.
Data, Supplies and Coordination
- Review clinical and surveillance data.
- Monitor admissions, recoveries, referrals, deaths and case-fatality rates.
- Ensure complete and timely reporting.
- Oversee the availability and rational use of medicines and equipment.
- Coordinate stock monitoring with pharmacy and logistics teams.
- Forecast requirements for ORS, intravenous fluids, antibiotics, PPE and other commodities.
- Ensure medical equipment remains functional.
- Participate in emergency-preparedness and outbreak-response planning.
- Coordinate with surveillance, WASH, nutrition, MHPSS, pharmacy and logistics teams.
- Liaise with health authorities and humanitarian partners.
- Report operational and security concerns.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
- Valid professional registration and practising licence.
- At least three years of relevant experience.
- Experience supervising health facilities or clinical teams.
- Experience working with Ministry of Health structures.
- Experience in emergency response and outbreak management.
- Experience in integrated health programming and health-system strengthening.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Additional relevant health certification is an advantage.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong clinical leadership and supervision.
- Ability to mentor and train healthcare personnel.
- Strong emergency decision-making ability.
- Knowledge of cholera and infectious-disease management.
- Ability to interpret clinical and epidemiological information.
- Strong communication and report-writing ability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours during emergencies.
- Fluency in English.
- Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
