Position Description & Requirements

JOB SUMMARY

Médecins du Monde seeks a Medical Supervisor to lead the clinical and operational delivery of services at its Cholera Treatment Unit (CTU). The role ensures safe, timely and protocol-compliant case management, effective staff supervision and coordinated outbreak response. Contract duration is subject to funding availability.

CLINICAL AND OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee triage, clinical assessment, diagnosis, dehydration classification and treatment of suspected and confirmed cholera cases.
  • Ensure correct use of oral rehydration solution, intravenous fluids, antibiotics, zinc and other treatment according to approved protocols.
  • Identify complicated or deteriorating cases promptly and organise stabilisation and referral.
  • Conduct clinical audits, case reviews and quality-improvement follow-up.
  • Organise patient flow and ensure safe separation, observation, treatment and discharge processes.
  • Supervise doctors, nurses and other CTU personnel; prepare duty plans, allocate responsibilities and monitor performance.
  • Provide bedside coaching, mentoring and refresher training to strengthen clinical practice.
  • Ensure rigorous infection prevention and control, water, sanitation and hygiene measures throughout the CTU.
  • Monitor medicines, consumables, equipment and emergency stocks; coordinate timely replenishment and report gaps.
  • Support readiness of surge infrastructure and continuity of essential services during changes in caseload.
  • Maintain accurate surveillance, morbidity, mortality, referral and service data and submit complete reports on time.
  • Verify data quality, analyse trends and alert management to clinical or epidemiological concerns.
  • Coordinate with government health authorities, facilities, laboratories, emergency actors and other partners.
  • Participate in emergency planning, incident management and operational coordination meetings.
  • Follow security procedures and immediately report incidents affecting patients, staff or operations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with valid professional credentials.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in clinical care and health-facility or humanitarian medical supervision.
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Health systems, outbreak response and integrated health programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop multidisciplinary teams.
  • Competence in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of the relevant local language is an advantage.
