Position Description & Requirements

ROLE PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Migration Health Officer and Senior Medical Assistant, the Medical Assistant will support applicant processing, call-centre services, reception and data management at IOM’s Migration Health Assessment Centre in Lagos.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CALL-CENTRE SUPPORT

  • Explain health-assessment procedures to migrants by telephone and email.
  • Register migrants in the IOM database and schedule and confirm medical appointments.
  • Communicate messages for medical personnel and beneficiaries.
  • Prepare processing lists, maintain daily statistics and support customer-satisfaction monitoring.

RECEPTION AND DATA PROCESSING

  • Receive applicants, explain registration procedures and verify identities.
  • Enter biodata and required information into approved systems.
  • Take and upload photographs and print medical and consent forms.
  • Receive examination forms, X-rays and documents and update receipt information in the database.
  • Prepare and package files for mobile health-assessment missions.
  • Transmit medical forms, DNA packages and other documents electronically or by courier.
  • Verify recipient and tracking details and maintain correspondence and medical files.
  • Process copies of deposit slips or other payment evidence for Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants must have either:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Management, Statistics, Social Sciences, Business Administration or a related field with at least two years of relevant experience; or
  • Secondary-school diploma with at least four years of relevant experience.

A certificate in IT or data entry is an advantage. Relevant experience includes data entry or analysis, call-centre work, records management, medical terminology and prior NGO or international-organization work.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

High computer literacy; Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and SharePoint; typing speed of at least 60 words per minute; accuracy; customer service; communication; time management; multitasking; limited-supervision working and strict-deadline delivery.
