Market Systems and Value Chain Specialist / Consultant

JOB OVERVIEW

WEWE is recruiting an experienced Market Systems and Value Chain Specialist/Consultant for the HORTISUN tomato value-chain project in Abuja/Kaduna. The assignment will strengthen the tomato supply chain, MSMEs, market services, partnerships and investment opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop a tomato supply-chain strengthening framework for selected LGAs.
• Establish and support a functional Tomato Community of Practice.
• Design and facilitate public-private partnership and 4P models, including at least three functional pilots.
• Strengthen MSME farmer outreach, market access, private extension services and business capability.
• Deliver business-development support covering business vision, execution, recordkeeping and financial literacy.
• Improve aggregation, processing, storage, transport and marketing capacity.
• Establish the project’s IPM2PC mechanism and link MSMEs and farmers to inputs, climate services, finance and markets.
• Conduct value-chain baselines, market mapping and investment appraisals.
• Develop practical tools for documenting Most Impactful Practices.
• Promote women’s and youth participation throughout the value chain.
• Produce learning briefs, technical reports, success stories and other knowledge products.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Master’s degree or higher in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Value Chain Development, Rural Development or a related field.
• At least 12 years of progressive experience in agricultural value chains and market-systems development.
• Demonstrated commodity-value-chain expertise and experience with private-sector-led agricultural programmes.
• Experience with AfDB, IFAD, USAID, World Bank or comparable donors.
• Strong analytical, policy-advisory, networking, communication and facilitation skills.

• Value-chain framework, upgrading strategy and functional Tomato Community of Practice.
• Reports on MSMEs, IPM2PC, partnerships, farmer clientele and investment opportunities.
• Technology, capacity-building and market-linkage reports.
• Technical mission briefs, completion report and knowledge products.
