ABOUT ACTION AGAINST HUNGER

Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian organisation established in 1979 to fight hunger and undernutrition around the world.

The organisation works in nutrition and health, mental health and psychosocial support, food security and livelihoods, water, sanitation and hygiene, advocacy, climate and research.

Action Against Hunger has operated in Nigeria since 2010, implementing humanitarian and development programmes across Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, Bauchi and Sokoto states.

Position: Logistics Expert

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract under French Legislation

Contract Duration: Three Months

Expected Start Date: 13 August 2026

Field Travel: Borno, Sokoto, Yobe, Adamawa and Katsina States

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the country management, the Logistics Expert will work with the management team to ensure that Action Against Hunger’s logistics policies, procedures and systems are appropriate and responsive to the Nigerian operational context.

The successful candidate will provide technical advice on logistics and procurement processes, analyse operational trends and support the improvement and implementation of the organisation’s logistics and procurement procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the country management team to strengthen logistics and procurement systems.
  • Review organisational logistics policies and procedures to ensure they remain relevant to the Nigerian operating environment.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on logistics processes and operational approaches.
  • Coordinate closely with programme and support departments on logistics requirements.
  • Analyse logistics, procurement and operational trends and provide recommendations to management.
  • Support the review, updating and implementation of Action Against Hunger’s logistics and procurement procedures.
  • Promote effective planning, organisation and execution of humanitarian logistics operations.
  • Ensure that logistics approaches comply with humanitarian principles, organisational standards and codes of conduct.
  • Advise teams on applicable local, national, regional and international logistics and procurement policies.
  • Support the identification of logistics risks, operational gaps and areas requiring improvement.
  • Contribute to strengthening coordination between logistics, programme and support teams.
  • Undertake field visits to operational locations when required.
  • Perform other logistics-related responsibilities assigned by country management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Logistics or a closely related discipline.
  • More than three years of professional experience working on logistics projects in humanitarian settings.
  • Previous experience with Action Against Hunger is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, organising and executing logistics operations.
  • Clear understanding of humanitarian principles and codes of conduct.
  • Understanding of the role of logistics within NGO field operations.
  • Knowledge of local, national, regional and international logistics and procurement policies.
  • Experience advising programme, management and support teams on logistics matters.
  • Experience working in challenging humanitarian or emergency-response environments is desirable.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS AND BENEFITS

  • Monthly gross salary ranging from €2,597 to €2,968, depending on experience and including the 13th-month payment.
  • Reimbursement of pension insurance for non-French citizens equivalent to 16% of the gross monthly salary.
  • Monthly field-paid per diem and living allowance of $838 net.
  • Monthly country allowance of €150.
  • Annual child allowance of €1,500 per eligible child, up to a maximum of €6,000 per year.
  • Transportation costs and guest-house accommodation covered by Action Against Hunger.
  • Health and repatriation insurance coverage.
  • Paid annual leave and rest-and-recuperation benefits.
