Position Description & Requirements

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

Action Against Hunger delivers humanitarian and development programmes addressing hunger through nutrition, health, WASH, food security, livelihoods, mental health and social protection. It has operated in Nigeria since 2010.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Logistics and Supply Chain Manager will oversee end-to-end supply-chain operations in Katsina, ensuring timely, cost-effective and compliant procurement, storage, transportation and delivery of goods and services. The manager will also oversee base infrastructure, fleet, assets, ICT, communications and security-related logistics while leading the logistics team and strengthening partner capacity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

SUPPLY CHAIN AND PROCUREMENT

  • Assess and plan logistics capacity required for programme delivery.
  • Monitor logistics performance and analyse operational indicators.
  • Help programme managers identify and plan logistics requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Action Against Hunger logistics policies and standards.
  • Manage procurement, transportation, warehousing and delivery.
  • Update requesters on logistics requests and supply progress.
  • Maintain knowledge of local markets and suppliers.
  • Develop and monitor project procurement and supply plans.
  • Ensure the quality and timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Oversee inventory and warehouse controls.

BASE OPERATIONS AND FACILITIES

  • Maintain safe and functional work and living environments.
  • Oversee construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of facilities.
  • Manage logistics assets and equipment according to operational needs.
  • Ensure continued access to water, power and essential utilities.
  • Coordinate fleet movement and efficient vehicle utilization.
  • Communicate maintenance schedules and service interruptions.

ASSETS, ICT AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • Maintain accurate asset and equipment registers.
  • Enforce appropriate and secure use of equipment.
  • Monitor asset utilization and cost-effectiveness.
  • Supervise the ICT Officer and ensure dependable ICT services.
  • Maintain voice and data communication systems.
  • Safeguard communications equipment and provide user support.

SECURITY, PARTNERSHIPS AND CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT

  • Support development and implementation of the base security plan.
  • Monitor logistics-related security procedures and operational risks.
  • Coordinate partner logistics activities and agreement provisions.
  • Monitor partner compliance with logistics standards.
  • Strengthen partner capacity through training and coaching.

TEAM LEADERSHIP AND REPORTING

  • Lead daily logistics operations and delegate tasks.
  • Recruit, onboard, supervise and retain logistics personnel.
  • Identify learning needs, coach staff and conduct performance reviews.
  • Prepare monthly logistics reports.
  • Monitor performance indicators and recommend improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing and Supply or a related field.
  • Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • CIPS, CILT or another logistics or supply-chain certification is desirable.
  • At least three years of logistics and supply-chain experience.
  • Humanitarian, development or NGO experience is preferred.

  • Team leadership, coaching and staff development.
  • Strong organization, analysis, reporting and attention to detail.
  • Communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • English and Hausa proficiency.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Integrity, accountability, flexibility and resilience.
  • Ability to operate in challenging or insecure environments.
