JOB SUMMARY
The Intersectional Pharmacist will serve as a technical focal point for the six MSF operational sections working in Nigeria. The position will coordinate pharmaceutical regulatory matters with NAFDAC, the Federal Ministry of Health and other authorities and strengthen coherence in medical importation, procurement and supply processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Keep Medical Coordinators, section pharmacists and supply centres updated on Nigerian medicines laws, regulations and guidelines.
- Support MSF representation and technical negotiations with NAFDAC and the Federal Ministry of Health.
- Lead preparation, submission and follow-up of annual NAFDAC Import Permits.
- Coordinate incorporation of import approvals at MSF Supply Centre level.
- Support tax/levy exemption follow-up with relevant teams.
- Support implementation of import procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Develop negotiation strategies and risk analyses to protect continuity of medical supply.
- Maintain information on locally procured items affected by import restrictions.
- Maintain relevant repositories and renewal processes for regulatory documentation.
- Follow specific requirements for biological products and controlled medicines.
- Advise pharmacy and supply teams on SONCAP and other import permits.
- Promote consistent pharmaceutical importation rules across MSF sections.
- Collect information on local pharmaceutical-market quality.
- Advise missions on emergency local purchasing where required.
- Act as focal point for pharmacovigilance, quality complaints and batch recalls.
- Maintain relationships with WHO, NGOs, UN agencies and other organisations involved in medicine quality and availability.
- Coach and support pharmacists and medical-supply personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Pharmacy degree or equivalent recognised diploma.
- MSF field experience is mandatory.
- Minimum three years’ professional experience.
- Significant experience in developing-country contexts with MSF.
- Knowledge of MSF European Supply Centres strongly recommended.
- Quality-assurance and local-market-assessment experience is advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal, diplomatic, planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and report effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Experience coaching pharmacy/supply personnel.
- Fluent English mandatory; French is an advantage.
CONTRACT DETAILS
- Full-time field-based position in Nigeria.
- 12-month fixed-term contract.
- Proposed start date: 15 December 2026.
