ABOUT INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE (IRC):
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an international humanitarian organisation that responds to conflict and disaster by providing assistance, protection and recovery support to affected communities. In Nigeria, IRC implements programmes across health, nutrition, protection, education, economic recovery and other humanitarian sectors.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Health Outreach Officer will support the implementation and expansion of quality, voluntary and client-centred family planning services through mobile outreach, community-based platforms and linkages with supported health facilities in Anka, Zamfara State. The role will work with health facilities, LGA authorities, community structures and frontline health workers to improve access to family planning and related services among underserved and hard-to-reach populations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Coordinate regular family planning outreach activities in underserved and hard-to-reach communities, working with supported facilities, LGA authorities and community structures.
2.Provide and support voluntary, informed and client-centred family planning counselling and services, including access to short-acting contraceptive methods, injectables and implants.
3.Support DMPA-SC/self-injection services where applicable and strengthen referrals for long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) and other services that cannot be provided during outreach activities.
4.Promote the integration of family planning with maternal, newborn and child health services, including postpartum family planning, while working with CHWs, community volunteers, women’s groups, youth groups, PPMVs and community leaders to generate demand.
5.Develop outreach micro-plans and coordinate logistics, staffing, commodities, equipment and supplies required for service delivery in collaboration with health facilities and relevant authorities.
6.Monitor family planning commodity availability and maintain accurate stock records to support uninterrupted service delivery.
7.Ensure compliance with national family planning guidelines, infection prevention standards, client-centred care requirements, IRC safeguarding procedures and accountability standards.
8.Collect, review and report accurate outreach data, including family planning indicators, referrals, method uptake, commodity availability and other programme results.
9.Work with LGA health authorities and facility teams to strengthen government ownership, coordination and sustainability of family planning services.
10.Maintain confidentiality and perform other programme-related duties as assigned by IRC.
REQUIREMENTS:
1.A degree or diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, Community Health or another relevant health-related field.
2.Valid professional registration or licence where applicable.
3.At least 2–3 years of relevant experience in primary healthcare, family planning, maternal and child health or community health programming.
4.Experience supporting mobile outreach or community-based health services is required.
5.Knowledge of modern contraceptive methods and family planning service delivery.
6.Experience working with community health workers, community structures and government health facilities.
7.Experience with routine health data collection, reporting and basic data analysis.
8.Knowledge of infection prevention and client-centred care practices.
9.Training or experience in LARC, family planning, DMPA-SC/self-injection or postpartum family planning is an advantage.
10.Previous experience working in humanitarian or hard-to-reach settings is desirable.
11.Knowledge of DHIS2/HMIS is an advantage.
12.Fluency in English and Hausa is highly desirable, while knowledge of relevant local languages in Anka is an advantage.
13.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
14.Willingness and ability to travel to field locations, approximately 10% of the time.
