Location: Flexible across One Acre Fund countries of operation, including Nigeria

JOB SUMMARY

The Global MEL Senior Associate will provide technical guidance, analytical support and quality assurance to Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning teams across selected country programmes.

The successful candidate will strengthen surveys, evaluation methodologies, data-quality systems, analysis, reporting and learning across One Acre Fund’s agricultural and agroforestry programmes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Country Portfolio Support

  • Serve as a technical resource for country MEL leads.
  • Review survey tools and data-collection methodologies before deployment.
  • Strengthen questionnaires and mobile data-collection systems.
  • Review and improve back-check surveys and data-quality assurance procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to automate data validation.
  • Review country-level data analysis using Stata and other statistical tools.
  • Ensure that analyses are accurate, reproducible and properly interpreted.
  • Review MEL reports, dashboards and presentations.
  • Help programme teams translate data into clear and practical recommendations.
  • Share effective MEL approaches and lessons across country programmes.

Evaluation Design and Methodology

  • Advise teams on programme-evaluation design.
  • Review quasi-experimental and experimental evaluation methodologies.
  • Support the use of propensity-score matching, difference-in-differences and randomised controlled trials.
  • Identify methodological gaps and evaluation risks.
  • Contribute to global MEL standards, frameworks and analytical tools.
  • Strengthen the consistency and quality of evaluations across programmes.

Capacity Building and Global MEL Initiatives

  • Develop and support MEL training for country teams.
  • Prepare practical learning materials, templates and guidance documents.
  • Support cross-programme research and methodology projects.
  • Conduct portfolio-level analysis when required.
  • Support strategic planning and evidence-based programme improvement.
  • Provide analytical support to agroforestry and tree-planting programmes where assigned.
  • Review cross-country work and provide technical feedback.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Applied Statistics, Agricultural Economics or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in monitoring, evaluation, applied research or a related field.
  • Advanced quantitative and statistical-analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in Stata is required.
  • Knowledge of R is an advantage.
  • Experience designing programme evaluations.
  • Knowledge of propensity-score matching, difference-in-differences or randomised controlled trials.
  • Experience designing and programming mobile data-collection surveys.
  • Experience using CommCare or a similar platform is preferred.
  • Experience developing data-quality assurance and validation systems.
  • Background in agriculture is required.
  • Experience with smallholder agriculture, agroforestry, tree planting or ecosystem measurement is an advantage.
  • Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa is preferred.

  • Excellent understanding of MEL methodologies.
  • Strong survey-design and data-quality skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong technical-writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to provide structured feedback and coaching.
  • Strong attention to analytical accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Professional fluency in English.
  • Professional French is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel within the region.
