Position Description & Requirements
JOB OVERVIEW
WEWE is recruiting a Gender Expert for the HORTISUN agricultural value-chain project in Abuja/Kaduna. The expert will ensure that gender equality, women’s economic empowerment and meaningful youth inclusion are integrated throughout project planning, implementation, monitoring and partnerships.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead gender mainstreaming across project workplans, budgets, activities and reporting.
- Develop and implement the project Gender Action Plan.
- Conduct gender analyses and identify barriers affecting women and youth in the tomato value chain.
- Advise MSMEs, farmer groups, partners and project teams on gender-responsive programme delivery.
- Build stakeholder capacity on women’s economic empowerment, gender-based violence, digital inclusion and gender-responsive value chains.
- Support collection, analysis and reporting of sex-disaggregated data and gender indicators.
- Ensure women and youth can participate in training, technology adoption, finance, markets and partnership opportunities, with the project targeting at least 40% participation by women.
- Promote women’s leadership in the Tomato Community of Practice, public-private partnerships and producer organisations.
- Document gender results, success stories, lessons and good practices.
- Contribute to project policies, monitoring tools, donor reports and knowledge products.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Advanced degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Sociology, Agricultural Economics or a related field.
- At least seven years of experience in gender mainstreaming in agriculture, rural development, value chains or MSME programmes.
- Strong knowledge of women’s economic empowerment, gender analysis and inclusive market systems.
- Experience working with donors, government and private-sector partners.
- Strong training, facilitation, analytical and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work with sex-disaggregated data and familiarity with the northern Nigeria context.
KEY DELIVERABLES
- Approved Gender Action Plan.
- Periodic gender progress reports and monitoring inputs.
- Gender-training materials and capacity-building sessions.
- Documentation of gender-responsive practices, results and success stories.
