JOB DETAILS

Job Title: Gender and Peacebuilding Officer

Location: Damaturu, Yobe State

Employment Type: Full-time

ROLE PURPOSE

The Gender and Peacebuilding Officer will support the design, implementation, monitoring and reporting of programmes addressing gender equality, Women, Peace and Security, conflict prevention, social cohesion, governance, protection, gender-based violence and women's empowerment.

PROGRAMME SUPPORT

  • Support design and implementation of gender and peacebuilding programmes.
  • Ensure gender considerations are integrated across programme activities.
  • Support implementation of conflict-sensitive and Do No Harm approaches.
  • Contribute to monitoring of programme outputs and outcomes.
  • Support preparation of programme and donor reports.
  • Assist with development of work plans and technical resources.

RESEARCH AND PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Contribute to proposal development.
  • Conduct or support gender analysis.
  • Conduct or support conflict and stakeholder analysis.
  • Contribute evidence and technical information to programme-design processes.
  • Support research relevant to gender, peacebuilding and social cohesion.

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

  • Engage communities, women's groups and youth groups.
  • Work with government institutions and civil-society organisations.
  • Coordinate with traditional and community leaders.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings, consultations and community dialogues.
  • Support relationships with NGOs, INGOs and donor-funded partners.
  • Promote participation of women and vulnerable groups in peacebuilding processes.

CAPACITY STRENGTHENING

  • Facilitate training on gender equality and peacebuilding.
  • Build stakeholder and partner capacity.
  • Develop training, awareness and facilitation materials.
  • Support knowledge sharing and organisational learning.
  • Document lessons learned and good practices.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree or HND in Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender Studies, Sociology, Political Science, International Development, Human Rights, Development Studies, Law or another related discipline.
  • At least three years of experience implementing gender equality, peacebuilding, governance, protection, GBV, women's empowerment or community-development programmes.
  • Experience working with NGOs, INGOs or donor-funded projects.
  • Experience engaging communities and government institutions.
  • Experience facilitating training and stakeholder engagements.
  • Proposal-development and report-writing experience.
  • Knowledge of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
  • Understanding of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.
  • Knowledge of Nigeria's National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security.
  • Understanding of gender-analysis tools, conflict sensitivity and Do No Harm approaches.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and protection principles.
  • Familiarity with results-based management and monitoring systems.
  • Strong communication, facilitation and stakeholder-management skills.
