Position Description & Requirements

Future Resilience and Development Foundation is a Nigerian nonprofit organisation delivering humanitarian, early-recovery and development programmes for vulnerable and conflict-affected communities.

FRAD Foundation works across protection, health, nutrition, WASH, education, livelihoods, gender equality, social inclusion and community resilience.

Background

FRAD Foundation, in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council, is implementing a humanitarian project supporting vulnerable populations in Borno State.

A major component of the project is the prevention of and response to gender-based violence, ensuring that survivors receive timely, confidential, safe and survivor-centred assistance.

The project focuses on:

Case management for survivors of gender-based violence.

Community sensitisation on GBV prevention and response.

Strengthening referral linkages with health, legal, psychosocial and protection service providers.

Supporting affected communities to understand and safely access available services.

FRAD Foundation is recruiting an experienced GBV/Case Management Assistant to provide frontline support to survivors and assist protection teams in Bama LGA.

Purpose of the Position

The GBV/Case Management Assistant will provide quality and survivor-centred case-management services.

The assistant will ensure that protection standards, confidentiality and ethical procedures are maintained while strengthening community-based support and referral systems for survivors.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Protection Officer to implement project activities in line with FRAD Foundation policies, donor requirements and recognised humanitarian standards.

Key Responsibilities

Case Management and Survivor Support

The assistant will:

Provide direct support to survivors of gender-based violence.

Deliver psychological first aid where appropriate.

Conduct safe, confidential and survivor-centred case intake.

Assess survivors’ needs and risks.

Support the development of individualised care and action plans.

Provide accurate information on available services and options.

Facilitate safe referrals to health, legal, psychosocial, protection and livelihood services.

Follow up on referrals and case plans in accordance with case-management protocols.

Maintain confidential and accurate case documentation.

Ensure the safe and ethical handling of sensitive information.

Respect survivors’ choices, dignity, privacy and right to refuse services.

Avoid actions that may expose survivors to further harm or stigma.

Close cases in line with established procedures and survivor-centred standards.

Community Engagement and GBV Prevention

The assistant will:

Conduct community sensitisation sessions on GBV prevention, protection and available services.

Work with community structures, women’s groups, youth groups and other stakeholders.

Help communities identify vulnerable individuals and protection concerns safely.

Promote awareness of available referral pathways.

Challenge harmful practices without exposing survivors or affected individuals.

Support prevention activities targeting women, girls, men and boys.

Promote inclusion and accessibility for persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups.

Ensure that community activities follow Do No Harm and confidentiality principles.

Coordination and Stakeholder Liaison

The assistant will:

Liaise with local authorities, health facilities, legal actors, MHPSS providers and humanitarian organisations.

Maintain updated knowledge of available services and referral pathways.

Participate in protection and GBV coordination meetings where required.

Work closely with community volunteers and protection focal points.

Support the integration of GBV risk mitigation and protection mainstreaming across project activities.

Communicate service gaps and emerging protection concerns to the Protection Officer.

Coordinate with relevant teams while ensuring that survivor information is not disclosed unnecessarily.

Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation

The assistant will:

Maintain accurate, secure and confidential case files.

Record caseloads, referrals, trends and protection concerns.

Use approved GBV case-management tools and databases.

Support the preparation of weekly and monthly activity reports.

Contribute to internal and donor reporting without exposing survivors’ identities.

Document lessons learned and good practices.

Ensure that case records are stored securely.

Follow established information-sharing and data-protection protocols.

Report safeguarding or misconduct concerns through approved channels.

Capacity Building

The assistant will:

Support the training and mentoring of community volunteers and project staff.

Promote awareness of GBV, protection and survivor-centred case-management principles.

Build the capacity of community structures to provide safe information and referrals.

Help project teams understand confidentiality, informed consent and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse.

Participate in relevant technical training and supervision sessions.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess:

A bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology or another relevant discipline.

At least three years of experience in case management.

Previous experience in GBV programming is strongly preferred.

Proven experience supporting GBV survivors in humanitarian or development settings.

Experience using GBV case-management tools.

Practical knowledge of GBVIMS+ or Primero.

Knowledge of the local context, culture and protection challenges in Bama LGA.

Strong understanding of survivor-centred principles, confidentiality and ethical case management.

Experience working with referral systems for health, legal and psychosocial services.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently in challenging environments.

Experience working in Northeast Nigeria will be an advantage.

Knowledge of safeguarding, protection mainstreaming and gender inclusion.
