ROLE PURPOSE
Support the effective delivery of Nutrition International programmes in Nigeria by ensuring accurate, timely and compliant financial processing, accounting, reporting and control. The Finance Officer maintains sound financial records and systems; processes payments and payroll-related transactions; supports budgeting, audits and statutory compliance; and helps ensure adherence to organisational policies, accounting standards, donor requirements and Nigerian laws.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate daily accounting operations and monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close processes.
- Prepare journals, bank reconciliations, balance-sheet reconciliations, schedules and supporting documents.
- Maintain effective financial controls, complete records and a clear audit trail.
- Identify and escalate errors, unusual transactions, control gaps and financial risks.
- Coordinate annual budgets and periodic forecasts and provide variance analysis to budget holders.
- Guide programme staff on project budgets, eligible costs, coding, cost allocation, documentation and donor compliance.
- Review financial aspects of purchase requisitions, contracts, amendments, payment requests, purchase orders, travel letters and project closure documents.
- Monitor administrative contracts and support compliance with contractual terms and timely renewals.
- Process payments, maintain general-ledger records and complete bank and cash reconciliations.
- Participate in procurement activities, including bid analysis, supplier-quotation reviews and value-for-money checks.
- Support audits, payroll-related transactions, statutory reporting and compliance with Nigerian tax requirements.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
- A professional accounting qualification such as ICAN, ACCA, ANAN or equivalent, or progress toward one, is an advantage.
EXPERIENCE
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting or a similar role.
- Experience within an international NGO or donor-funded environment is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, financial controls, reconciliations, budgeting and financial reporting.
- Working knowledge of Nigerian tax and statutory requirements relevant to employers and organisational operations.
- Experience supporting programme finance, contracts, audits, payroll, procurement and administrative financial processes.
- Experience using accounting or ERP systems.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
