ABOUT ACTION AGAINST HUNGER
Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian organisation working to end hunger and support communities affected by crises. ROLE PURPOSE
Support Monitoring and Evaluation and/or programme teams to collect accurate qualitative and quantitative data. Supervise beneficiary registration and verification, household surveys and team data quality under ACF staff supervision, using paper or mobile tools.
SUPERVISION OF DATA-COLLECTION TEAMS
- Support routine monitoring of project activities across ACF-supported sites.
- Supervise enumerators’ daily work, conduct spot checks and ensure data quality.
- Locate and validate respondents before questionnaires are administered.
- Provide technical support on data-collection tools when needed.
- Coordinate field-team movements to reach the required number of respondents on schedule.
- Follow the approved methodology and validated terms of reference.
- Ensure enumerators handle data-collection devices properly.
QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE DATA COLLECTION
- Conduct mobile or paper-based data collection according to the activity.
- Take notes and transcribe telephone interviews when required.
- Ask questions clearly and courteously, using their exact wording.
- Translate data-collection tools live and interpret interview results for third parties when necessary.
- Interpret findings in English and record responses accurately, clearly and in an orderly manner.
- Probe unclear answers for clarification when needed.
- Follow survey methodologies taught by ACF teams.
ACCOUNTABILITY
- Support implementation of accountability frameworks across ACF-supported locations.
- Monitor activities and confirm that beneficiary entitlements reach the intended people according to project design.
- Refer beneficiary cases and complaints to the accountability unit.
- Provide feedback and complaint forms to stakeholders when required.
- Give supervisors feedback after each day of data collection.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum diploma in science, social sciences or another relevant field.
- Proven experience supervising field data collection and related activities.
- Written and spoken English and local-language proficiency, especially Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa and Fulani.
- Basic computer literacy, ability to work with and manage a team, and strategic thinking and planning skills.
- Experience interpreting and translating between multiple languages.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and partners.
- Knowledge of survey procedures and data-quality techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of local conditions and community dynamics, including cultural, gender and protection issues, with the ability to communicate effectively in local languages.
- Previous NGO experience.
- Commitment to humanitarian and development principles and understanding of conflict and post-conflict development contexts.

- Perform other related tasks as assigned and communicate progress and achievements.
- Remain flexible and adaptable in implementing daily activities.
- Conduct duties professionally in accordance with ACF Nigeria staff regulations, its Charter of Principles and Core Values.
