Position Description & Requirements
JOB OVERVIEW
WEWE is recruiting a Field Extension Expert to provide practical advisory support to MSMEs and smallholder tomato farmers participating in the HORTISUN project in Abuja/Kaduna.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Expand farmer outreach and strengthen the clientele base of participating MSMEs.
- Conduct regular field visits and provide practical agronomic and extension advice.
- Promote improved tomato-production, post-harvest and climate-smart technologies, including the use of appropriate crates.
- Monitor productivity, quality, technology adoption and farming practices.
- Provide field feedback to MSMEs and the HORTISUN extension team.
- Organise farmer field schools, demonstrations, coaching and training sessions.
- Collect field data and document activities, constraints, adoption results and lessons.
- Link farmers to MSMEs, input suppliers, markets and relevant support services.
- Promote the inclusion of women and young people in extension activities.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy or a related field.
- At least three years of field-extension or agricultural-advisory experience.
- Practical knowledge of tomato production, agronomy and post-harvest management.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills.
- Experience working with MSMEs and smallholder farmers.
- Hausa-language ability and familiarity with local farming communities are advantages.
KEY DELIVERABLES
- Field-visit and activity logs.
- Training and demonstration records.
- Periodic feedback on adoption, productivity, constraints and farmer performance.
- Inputs to quarterly and annual project reports.
