JOB SUMMARY

The Facilities Supervisor will coordinate the maintenance, repair and construction of screenhouses, glasshouses and related agricultural-research infrastructure at IITA’s headquarters. The role will supervise technical staff and casual workers, manage materials and documentation, and ensure work meets operational, safety and environmental requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out general maintenance of screenhouses and glasshouses to ensure proper functioning and compliance with research requirements.
  • Supervise screenhouse staff, technicians and casual workers engaged in maintenance and construction.
  • Coordinate construction of new screenhouses and related infrastructure.
  • Oversee repairs, including replacement of roofing glass, nets and frames.
  • Supervise washing, cleaning and fumigation of screenhouses and glasshouses.
  • Conduct daily inspections to identify repair and maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate requisition, collection and accountable use of construction and repair materials.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports on maintenance, construction and operational activities.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety and environmental standards during construction and maintenance work.
  • Track labour, materials and maintenance costs to support cost-recovery planning, budgeting and reporting.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the Head of Farm Management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • HND or BSc in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Technology or a related discipline.
  • Certification in Construction Management or Facility Maintenance is an advantage.
  • Three to five years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, construction or agricultural-infrastructure management.
  • Strong knowledge of screenhouse and glasshouse maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of workplace-safety standards, PPE and safe construction and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to supervise technical staff and casual workers effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with procurement, vendor management, cost tracking, reporting and documentation.
  • MS Word, Excel and Outlook proficiency.
  • Training in health, safety and environmental management, risk management, project supervision or construction supervision is advantageous.
  • Experience with research-farm infrastructure, controlled-environment agriculture or automated screenhouse systems is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of donor compliance, ERP systems or facilities-management software is desirable.
  • Good oral and written English.
