ABOUT IITA

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is a not-for-profit research organisation that develops agricultural solutions to improve food security and livelihoods across Africa.

JOB SUMMARY

The Driver will provide safe and timely transportation for project staff, consultants, partners, visitors, materials and equipment while maintaining the assigned vehicle and accurate transport records.

  • Contract: Two-year renewable contract
  • Location: Plateau State
  • Applicants: Suitable Nigerian nationals

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transport staff, consultants, partners and visitors safely and on time.
  • Deliver project materials, equipment and supplies to field locations.
  • Keep the assigned vehicle clean, secure, roadworthy and properly maintained.
  • Conduct daily inspections and report faults, accidents or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Maintain vehicle logbooks, fuel records, maintenance records and trip documentation.
  • Support servicing, repairs, insurance renewals and vehicle licensing.
  • Follow traffic regulations and IITA road-safety requirements.
  • Support logistics for trainings, workshops, field visits and stakeholder meetings.
  • Protect passengers, documents and equipment during journeys.
  • Assist with loading and unloading when required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Secondary School Certificate.
  • Valid driving licence for the appropriate vehicle class and a clean driving record.
  • At least three years’ professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO, government agency or corporate organisation.
  • Additional vehicle-maintenance training is advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of Plateau State roads, including rural routes.
  • Basic vehicle troubleshooting, communication and time-management skills.
  • Physically fit and willing to travel frequently to remote locations.
  • High integrity, reliability and sound judgement.
